Default h22 ecu question!

I was looking on a local forum and found a Spoon chipped P13 OBD2 ecu for a h22. My question is, will this ecu work on a stock h22 or does the engine need to have mods for it to work done, or does it depend on how the person programmed the ecu? I never even knew Spoon had ecu chips, anyone have any experience with them?? Kind of a noobie question but I need to know H-T!! Thanks!

chipped OBD2 ECU??? - yes it's possible, but it's rare.

or are you looking at an OBD1 ECU with an OBD2 to OBD1 jumper? (which is a lot more common)

IMO premade chips are almost worthless unless the tuner made the chip specifically for the engine and setup of your car.
Typical "spoon" "mugen" "skunk2" etc chips are nothing but someone taking a stock setup in Crome and pushing in more fuel and giving it a slight ignition bump.
With tends to result in the car loosing power and getting poor mpg.

The stock P13 would be your best bet. If the ECU is OBD1 and cheap, pick it up and cut the jumper and remove the chip. This will put the ECU back to stock.
Or if you'd like you can put a switch in the jumper so you can go back and forth between the stock P13 and the chip.

P13 OBD2 Comp Real Spoon Chip (H22 VTEC) <--exact words from the seller. Thanks for the reply I learned something new =D. I like the idea of the jumper switch, but yea I figured it wasn't that big of a deal its just a name brand on something that I or a shop could tune, I just wanted to see if it's worth it. I might actually pick it up though we'll see, but thanks for the info Relic!

if it really is an OBD2 ECU with a chip then it's not like OBD1s where you can switch back and forth.
A stock ECU would be best, it really depends on what the "spoon" program in the ECU was setup for.
Spoon had wild builds and mild builds, and pretty much everything in between.
If it's a mild build set of maps then it should work fine on your stock engine. (with boltons of course)

You could also look at customized ECUs. I bought mine from phearable.net. He is able to program an ECU with the h22 base map for you. I have had the ECU for almost 5 months and have never once had a problem with it.

If you do a full swap and there was no previous ecu what else do you need to change besides the fuel lines and the other parts that would be out of date to the new motor
