engine swap question
hey all,
i have a 94 civic EX with a dead engine, i'd like to get it running again as cheaply as possible. the factory engine is the D16Z6 and i know the D15B is considered a direct swap. are there any other engines that would be considered a direct swap? could i install a D16Y7 for instance? i know the ecu would have to be changed if i did that, anything else have to be changed? i'm not looking for performance here, just to get this car running cheaply again.
also if you have any sources for a good deal on any of these engines please let me know. thanks.

the d16y7 will bolt right in but you will have to change some sensors. you can use the p28 ecu but your check engine light will stay on cuz vtech is not there and i believe you will have to use the d16 dizzy. and b series bolts right in with b series motor mounts. good luck
The D16Y7 can be a direct bolt in as long as you use the driver's side mount and bracket from your Z6. You can switch the Y7 intake manifold to the Z6 manifold and eliminate any sensor issues. If the head from the Z6 is good, then you can mate it to the Y7 block for a "mini-me" and reuse your P28 ECU. If not, you will want to get a 92-95 P06 DX/LX ECU to run the Y7.
Just check with salvage yards because the D16Y7 can be found cheap and are more than plentiful. I have 2 cars with Y7's in them right now: an 89 DX hatch and a 90 4wd wagon. They make great replacement motors.
