b20 auto
i have an automatic 95 dx civic and what to do a b20 non vtec swap. i do not want to do a 5-speed conversion because of the cutting and welding trany brace . will this work with an auto ls trany? thanks for your time.
yea the tranny will bolt right up to the b20 andyou can use an obd1 ls ecu no problem, although i would go for the 5 speed swap. you don't have to cut or weld anything just mix and match oem parts civic/integra.
Actually DOHCSIDESI u he does need to modify the upper trannymount. Auto and manual EG's have different mounts welded to the frame rail.
not to my knowledege, head height is not higher...
although the B20 deck is about 7mm higher than a B16 but is same as B18...
(have you been misinformed?)

the intake manifold is bigger
if you wanna close your hood you need an LS manifold
man just go manual! quit posting this! its the 3rd one ive seen
no matter what you do its not gonna hold the power
honda+auto tranny=***

anyways,
the LS auto should work, i AFAIK the B20 block is externally the same as the B18...
it will save you HEAPS of screwing around with the conversion.

i would suggest, without experience, that if your model civic came with an auto tranny similar to the LS, it should be OK,
but i dont know how big the DX civic tranny would be compared to an LS one...
maybe see a wrecker who has both trannys for comparison?
i really hope this helps

I've got an LS auto in my 94 del Sol. The B20 and LS auto tranny should fit in your DX just fine. BUT, like they said, you'll need to some creative welding for the upper tranny mount (use the Integra mounts). And you'll probably need to cut a little bit of the sub-frame to make the transmission fit (yeah, it's larger than the D-series auto trannies).
The people who hate automatics probably haven't driven an Integra automatic. They're very similar to how the manual tranny works (see the Integra HELMS manual, section 14), but with a bunch of solenoids and hydraulics, all computer controlled by the TCM (transmission control module). Fitting the auto tranny isn't your biggest problem -- it's wiring in the TCM that's a bitch. See my site for a wiring diagram and other info: http://odin.prohosting.com/delsol94
You tend to get better traction with an automatic. But the shifts are slow (like 0.7sec, whereas with a 5spd a good driver might only take about 0.3sec) and lack of a 5th gear kind of sucks (just higher rpms while cruising). AND, the auto trannies WON'T hold up to much additional power. Everyone I know who has added a turbo to a Honda auto (including myself) has only had it last 2-6 months.
My friend gave up on his auto and went to 5spd, and is now getting worse times (traction sucks). I'm on my second auto, getting the first one rebuilt to hold power (still in progress). Investing in a $70 tranny cooler would be very wise, even if the motor is stock.
At 6psi, 149 ft/lbs of peak torque and 2710lbs race weight, my best time is 14.7 @ 96mph (street tires).
I'd be really interested to see how it goes with the B20 motor. I'm using an LS (B18B), and if I ever get the time/money I'd like to put in a B20 block. Though it probably won't hold up as long (crappy rod/stroke ratio).

hey man...are you talking about me man!
j/k i know you are. hey i got my car running again and i have the gsr intake manifold on there!!! it definitely drives better than before and sounds better.
yeah i had an automatic and it pulled better times and launched better and it was so consistent...8.6's all night in the 1/8th and 2.1 60's on 6 psi on stock 13" generic balding tires. i would love to have another auto but that would have to be able to hold about 300 horsepower reliably.

thanks but that's just the way it was with my set up. i can drive stick and i guess that i should just be clear and say that the auto was no slower than the 5 speed in 60'ing, e.t., and mph. i have let numerous other good drivers race my car and it pulls what it always bests at which is 8.6. that is just all that my set up can pull in the 8th right now. so thanks again for your apology about me launching an auto. they can launch just as good as any manual to let you know if you don't already know.
thanks for all that info . now i do not know if i will do the swap anymore, because of the tcm and how much it cost . i am still thinking on it .

Naww man, I ain't talking about U!!
I still don't get HOW you ran 8.6sec 1/8th mile times. Dude, you might have been damn near 12sec 1/4 mile times!! Wish I had been there at the track to see it, and see how you launched! This Jetta guy at 23psi was running mid 8's, and told me he ran 12's in the 1/4 (manual of course)... I still don't have the ***** to launch at 4-5k rpm with the turbo (a la neutral-drop style). Maybe after my other tranny gets rebuilt again and before I put it back on
So my best is still 9.572sec in the 8th (or 14.7 @ 96mph in the 1/4). I know the power is there to run high 13's, I'm just not ready to go for it yet... I know my motors good, and I don't wanna lean out or anything...
When are you gonna weigh your car and get a dyno chart!? I bet it's like 2100 pounds and something like 190whp (versus my heavy *** 2500lbs and 172whp). God-damn fast hatchbacks... Hehe

autoejcivic: BTW, Honda Heaven in Arlington might have a good price on an auto tranny if you decide to go for it. Typically their like $600-$800. But last time I was there, he had two and he was only asking $450.
Yeah, the TCM wiring deal is intimidating. But it's just about as difficult as swapping to 5spd. A couple days ago I met this dude whose putting together a B16A and auto tranny (http://coreyonline.tripod.com/crxmainpage.html). A DOHC VTEC automatic would be a pretty rare setup as well.
anyway, good luck dude deciding what to do!!
