I ran into the same problem with my 99 EK hatch but its a simple fix. For some reason, not all OBD1 ecu's can drive both the ignition control module and the tach signal like OBD2 ecu's can. I don't know if these are just rare cases for certain cars or what but its annoying. All I did was disconnect or cut the blue wire going to pin A19 at the ecu plug. The only downside to doing this is that you will now have to run a wire from the blue wire at the distributor to the dead end plug that is up by the firewall plug on the drivers side to get your tach to work. Let me know if you have any other issues when you get it running because my EK has another weird electrical problem with OBD1 ecu's for some reason. Hope this helps.

Awesome...so does that fix the tach issue or the whole limp mode problem?

It should fix both problems. Cutting the A19 wire kills the tach signal coming from the ecu but you can use the signal that comes from the blue wire at the distributor plug. I would post pics but I'm at work right now.

I'm actually going through this problem right now. 98 b18 in a 93 eg 4dr. obd1 harness is plugged in o2 extended. alt, dizyy, injectors converted. running a pr4 and its doing the same with the bogging out when i hit the gas etc. I wouldnt go as far as to convert it to obd1. to expensive to possibly go no where. oh btw only cel i got is #10 which the jdm's dont even have.

From what I understand they don't have a crank sensor built into the oil sending unit but they have it in the distributor instead...thanks for the info man! I just got off work...been drivin the old cb7...I'm gonna go try it now...ill let y'all know what happens!

I posted a thread a few days ago but didn't get any responses...searched everywhere with no luck...this is what I posted...so you know what all is goin on...I've since pulled the codes...

Recently swapped engines in my ek...1998 civic ex...d18y8 locked up so I bought a 95 ls swap...used my stock obd2a harness and changed the plugs...dizzy is correct from what I can tell...runs and drives but I'm stuck in limp mode...no knock sensor on the ls...oil sending unit is plugged in...coolant temp switch, sensor, and sender are correct...iacv and tps are good...iat sensor I believe is correct. All the injectors are fine...I bought a 93 eg that had the motor in it and drove it 2 hours home so I know it ran perfect before...I'm stumped idk what to do from here...the cylinder position sensor and cam position sensor wires were backwards the first time I wired the dizzy...my tach is going ape **** all over the place...everything I cut and wired was twisted and soldered together...heat shrinked and wrapped in electrical tape...I'm lost at what to do next and I can't find any help! I have a cel but how can I check an obd1 code with an obd2 harness? I tried grounding pin A13 on the ecu and it just makes the light stay solid! Any help is greatly appreciated!
