Default hesitation before vtec

well it happend again today i was going to pass a car and in 3rd right before vtec engagement the car just kinda stopped accelarating and sounded differently. i had it at about 70% throttle but the rpms werent going any higher. this time i stayed on the throttle and it lasted about 3 full seconds then it just took off like normal. i searched and saw alot about a map whack im not sure if this would be the same issue. because it kinda feels like the vtec lobe failed to engage but the computer still added more fuel. kinda like it just bogged way out. this is on a 04 S2000 20K miles.

if it is the Map sensor is that covered under warranty? would there be an issue if i took the car in to the dealership with an AEM intake? because i bought the car with it and the previouse owner didnt have the stock intake..

As long as the intake isnt causing the problem it should be covered.

my car did the same thing. It seems to do it to me when the engine is still cold. Could it be a safety thing so you dont stress your motor before it warms up?

well last night about 3/4 full but before it was at about 1/4.

its still doing it even if its warm. today its done it a bunch of times the engine light flashed a couple times. so i backed off the trottle then it went back to normal. but so far it ALWAYS does at 6K. so i think its something connected to vtec. since its done it a bunch of times doday i made an appointment at the dealer for tommorow morning. i read the code from it and its a code P1399...

hows the oil? being vtec, the motors designed to burn oil, says the manual and pretty much all honda owners. anywho, when i had my 2000 s, in hard cornering, the motor would starve for oil and refused to cross into vtec (nother reason i think the f20 and f22 should have a dry sump). if the oils low, it could very well not have enough to cross over. check the oil, or just take it in to the dealership, but the service writers will probably be dicks because they wont be able to see the problem in the bay, and if they dont see a problem there, they get weird. good luck with it.

oils fine... i done figured it out!!!! yeah it was the intake! there was water puddling on the peice that goes across the bay. i guess at about 6k its just enough suction to start pulling the water up the pipe. its funny cuz the first time it did it i swaer it had not rained. well actually i didnt figure it out Honda of El Cerrito figured it out. Major props to them customer service is an A++ . the service writer didnt document that it was the intake causing the problem so i could keep my warranty.

note the water is just from regular rain no puddles!!

so whats the best way to prevent water from climbing up your intake???

either a bypass valve like the one AEM makes, or put some kind of plate across that cross member so theres nowhere for water to puddle up.

it wasnt on the cross member. its was on the intake pipe itself. i guess it had started to sag a bit and the elbow at the bottom was basically a puddle. i re adjusted the intake so that the angle of the lower pipe actually ran water back towards the little nipple thing on the intake. i drove it all day yesterday(light rain) and it seems to have fixed it.
