Do you feel that the stock S2k is underpowered?
I think it should of had 300HP, and more torque. Sure there would be more crashed S2k's but it would be a totally different animal, and a lot more fun on the track.
Agreed^^^ i know i've spun mine out a few times not meaning too, and definitely has enough power as long as you know how to use it.
The problem is that it is such a great car it gets compared to larger, more powerful cars that dwarf its power numbers.
Its gets compared to Z's all the time and honestly they are completly different cars.
But humans and human and a car is a car....compared to a 18-20psi EVO its torqueless, sure. Or against a 7L V8 Z06...its a f'king 2.0L 4banger...
I just think people's expectations are set too high...plus avg people get scared rev'ing to 9K and short shift at 6-7K and complain about the power.
Drive it like you stole it and the S2K is probably one of the most fun cars you could own for very little money.
I should have bought one but I take long trips and needed more cabin/cargo room -- ended up with an 06 350z vs 06 AP2...while the Z has much more torque the overall qualities of the S2K make it the better choice for an enthusiast like myself.
I would say that like 50% of 350Z/g35 are supercharged or turbo, cause they are underpowered for their weight.
Maybe 25% of S2000 are supercharged/turbo. Not as underpowered for its weight that not as many owners feel the need to boost it.
And the 350Z has more leg room but the s2000 trunk is larger. Cant really put **** in the 350Z. hah.

If one doesn't like the S2k's engine power and torque, then there are plenty of other cars with more power to choose from. It's as simple as that.
The car is well built and not underpowered but balanced out for an all out fun time. For the money that you pay for the s2k it is well worth it.
See I have owned a Z.. and I enjoyed driving that much more than the s2k..
I love the way the Z feels... INSTANT power. Advance timing in high rpms for horses, retard it in low for torque..
I like the s2k.. but only if I'm slamming gears at 6-9k rpm.. which unfortunately usually illegal because I have to be speeding, or showing demonstration of speed.
I do like the exhaust note change once vtec is engaged.. really cool. Esp with my greddy ti-c. In the summer this is an amazing car.. love having the top down.
Convertible Z's look like crap.. which is too bad. I feel Z's are safer, and more stable at high speeds.

This is funny.. I'd bet my life that more s2k's are turbo/super charged compared to Z's. There's probably even more Z's on the road, and this fact is still true.
it's a 2.0L 4 pot Honda engine that goes for a million miles with hardly any servicing. It's (reasonably) economical and tame as a ***** cat at low speeds.
Add to that the fact that it produces in the region of 250hp stock and goes completely mental over the 6k rev until it screams out to 9k.
It's reasonably priced too
I always want more power - that never stops, so theoretically it is underpowered for me. But is the car underpowered? Not it's not - it's an amazing piece of engineering, even by todays standards.

i think the s2k was designed to go fast in straight lines, so yes it is underpowered.

Trust me...the 350z hatch area can haul more cargo than the S2K trunk...dont look at stats...park them side by side and load them...youll see
Plus there is a hump in the passenger side trans tunnel that impedes comfort on the S2K.
The 350z is a sports GT....the S2K is more of a pure sports car. Ive owned 9 Hondas and will own plenty more and had I not needed the cruise comfort/cargo room I would have much prefered the S2K.
The F20c compared to the VQ is a masterpiece. The VQ came when Nissan was hurting and the build shows ALOT of cost cutting measures that really hamper power production in stock form. While the F20c is somewhat 'max'ed out in NA form adding a little boost really amplifies the character of the S2K....a small GT30 turbo setup wouldnt be overkill and add an easy 150whp that would make the S2K magical...throw in some weight reduction and thats a 2200lb dream of a 400+whp S2K with quick spool.
I wish the VQ was a little different but it is what it is. It gets the job done but at 33-3400lbs the not so smart head holds back power production and the weak rods/rod bolts limit revs. Since there are fewer Z tuners/builders the prices for work is $$$$. You need work to really move the car...plus the ECU is finicky and until a short time ago you had to have a $$$ V-Pro to really get a good tune....talking 3K just to get a tune that would hold...for a simple NA bolt-on car looking to maxmize gains...3K on top is just crazy. But really had no choice until UpREV came in with a $600 flash soloution.
While not as cheap to mod as Civics the S2Ks premium wasnt as high as the Z guys looking for 500+whp....S2K guys can do that on stock block...most Zs will need to build for that.
The newer HR motors are great and the all new 3.7L motors with the new head are cool ( a little heat sensitive) but at least they are belting out 330hp which makes the Z where it should have been in 03.
Sorry for the rant..
JDM FTW y0
i have a feeling that one day o_NiiNe will become a fully grown troll..
and no, the s2k does not have 250hp.. you're quoting cars built in Japan? This is America.. the 09 s2k claims 237.. and thats not at the wheels..
mine should dyno in at around 205 at the wheels.. and thats with intake and exhaust..
250? wtf
