AP2 Compression Test #'s
Hey guys,
Went to my get my 2004 S2000 with 44000 KM's on it and they did a compression test, the sheet says the numbers are 150 across all cylinders.
I have read that this is a low number, if it is what should I do and what does it mean?
They told me my car was in great shape, no problems so I am a little confused.

im not sure what would be appropriate numbers for the compression, but having uniform compression numbers is very good. but since this is a high compression motor, i cant tell u if its faulty equipment or faulty motor.
the 00-03 s2000 service manual lists:
Nominal 1,570k Pa, 16.0k gf/cm, 228p si
pretty sure the ap2 is almost the same. so i would say you have some major wear issues on that engine. i wouldn't buy that car

you know it could all be related to using the tester wrong. also i have used different testers on the same motor and got quite different readings

ap2 should be even higher since the compression ratio is bumped up by .1

You are using the gauge wrong probably. How many turns did you do for each cylinder?
Having consistant numbers is really what you are looking for. Im sure if those numbers were correct, the motor wouldn't run right or it would be burning a very noticable amount of oil.

Hey guys thanks for all your responses,
We believe that the Honda dealership maybe have decided to skip the compression test and just write down numbers they believe would apply. We think this just becuase they wrote down each cylinder as, 150 150 150 150, numbers they believe would have been alright.
The car runs great, no weird noises no burning oil and pulls hard, are there any symptoms of an AP2 running this low on compression? Or do you guys think the dealership skipped on the compression test.

if thats teh case take it to another palce and have it done. thats an important part of the buying process. if the numbers come back 50psi higher-ish go back to the first place and demand your money back and present them with those numbers. normally there is a 1psi give or take.
there is an acceptable range of pressure but who ever said consistancy is right, but at one point or another the sheer numbers do matter.
