UEGO=Universal Exhaust Gas Oxygen sensor, basically the AEM box has a wideband o2 sensor controller included in the box, if you have or are planning on getting a separate wideband o2 the option is unnecessary.
Personally, I would check out the new Hondata K-Pro for the S2000. Many people in this forum will not agree with me, but the Hondata will leave you with a much better running car.

Model numbers.
1052 = no UEGO
1052U = with UEGO
Keep in mind the AEM EMS is not OBDII compatible.
As for the hondata, I'd pass, it's way overpriced, and you have to change a lot of sensors. So it's not a plug in and go, and not easy to go back to stock if need be. (cause you'll have to change your sensors back). I'd much rather pick up an HKS F-con.
(but you have to find a tuner, which is hard if you're not in the right place)

That was the first one that had some issues I believe. There's still some of those floating around.

Does this mean that you would not be able to plug in an OBDII scanner?
how would one pass inspection with an AEM EMS installed?

You'll need to swap back in your stock ecu, get a "hookup", or something along those lines.

1. Not compatible with an OBDII scanner.
2. Depending on the state you live in, most states, you can't pass emissions with an AEM EMS. You'll need connections or put your OEM ECU back in for the short period. I believe it needs to go through 3 full cycles (fully warmed up, and fully cooled) to register on the scanner.

yes about 2 years ago you could do this, now they scan your vin and hook a computer up to your ECU. Without steeling a sticker i dont see how someone could do this anymore in NY.

I'm using the AEM EMS for the sole reason that there are tuners all over the place. I would take the HKS F-con V pro or the Apex-i Power FC over the AEM EMS in a heartbeat if I could find a good local tuner.
HKS = 32x32
Apexi = 20x20
AEM = 16x16
The F-con and Power FC have absolutely no issues with start up/cold starts. They also run a lot smoother then the EMS.

Yeah, I know, but I'm on the wrong coast.
There is a shop in MD that is a dealer of HKS, but I dunno if I trust them to tune. LOL maybe after I get the EMS tuned and they can copy the plots over and then fine tune from that.

Yep, they seem to be the closest. Don't know much about them though. The next closest would be up in New York or PA.

I passed in ny
. I was working on a little ecu simulator that hooks up to the obd plug wires. I have a working prototype and will most likely have a couple made in the up coming months. Of course it should only be used for "testing of scan tools"
. The VIN needs to be hard coded in the firmware as the tester requests the vin from the ECU.
