Default vtec grind metalic sound?

When the cam profile changes around 4500rpm there's this metalic grind sound for a second. What could this possibly be? thanks

you shouldnt have vtec change over until around 5200 unless you have a differnt ecu or some kind of vtec controller. have you pulled the valve cover to chekc the cam lobes?

It's right when the cam profile changes at 4500, stock everything. 5200 is when the extra intake butterflys open and allow more air in not when it switches to the higher profile cam lobe from my understanding. I called a honda shop and they said that it might be the oil filter being clogged going to the silinoid that lifts the cam. I'm getting it fixed tuesday whatever it is. It sucks because I just got my skunk2 exhaust and getting it installed tomorrow, so I can't test vtec w/ it. I'll let you guys know what it is after it's fixed.

well you're wrong
unless you have a GSR;
lift the valve cover and inspect

an interference with the butterflies which open @ 4400 doesn't sound like a grinding,more like a tapping sound

Well it's right at 4400 or 4500 and then the grind stops so I have no idea.

Lol.....my phone is ringing and I need some help. Can someone on the internet please tell me who it is now?

It's been said about a dozen times to pull the valve cover & check for proper clearances but if it's only happening in a certain gear I'd think it to be tranny related.

No doubt.....if it only happens in 1 gear I would agree its probally tranny related,but if not it takes about 10 min to take the valve cover.

Changed the oil and put royal purple 10-30 in and the problem was solved. I think the previous owner must have used too thin of oil. I'm so relieved. thanks for the help guys.

The previous owner probably had the oil changed at Wal Mart or something.

Im have same problem... Im using 5W30 cheap oil from napa (thinking of using just for a month). So should i change oil to 5W30 synthetic oil or 10W30 synthetic oil? Or just do a valve ajustment?

Note, this is on my project car that i just got runing. (bought with ripped timing belt, didnt know)
