Default TypeS Turbo

I know that the main difference between a USDM H22, and the JDM H22 is mostly in the head. it also runs higher compression as well, so would it be stupid to buy a JDM H22 and drop the compression to USDM specs, maybe even lower, in order to run a Turbo w/ high boost. has anyone done this? where can i read about it? am i an idiot for even asking this question?

yes you are. Just buy a USDM H22a and drop a turbo on that. If you use JDM spec motor you will not pass smog ever even with turbo off. It costs alot of money to do piston work so the gains with USDM in JDM arent worth it. If you want to do high boost i would suggest forged pistons.

the only reason i really wondered is becasue of the difference being mostly in the head, like the different angles in the valves, combustion chamber etc. anyways, i'm not worried about smog becasue i live in the mtns. of NC and we don't do smog testing here. thanks anyway

Wouldn't a port and polish job made to turbo specs be better? and if your gonna ditch the whole bottem end whats the point of buying the whole engine anyways? I would also assume the Type-s cams would create a lot over over lap.

with a JDM head and compression you'll already almost be running on the edge with the lower octane gas in the US (sometimes its even lower than 91 octane... bad batches)....then adding boost to the equation.....IMO it would be pretty risky...especially since H22as aren't well known for taking that much boost successfully anyways....with that compression to start out with, all motor or a conservative shot of nitrous with practical timing retard might be a more viable solution

Hey Sam get my f*ckin teg out of your sig! It's not yours until 10AM tomorrow morning! I'm gonna see how well those valves will hold up from a 5th-2nd gear drop in my car.....damn Jeff is a dumbass, poor GTS engine having to go through that. Also can i drive your lude tomorrow while you work on the teg? I'm gonna run up to Asheville to look at a turbo Mr2.

I don't let anyone drive my car, not my GF, my mom can't find reverse, not my friends, I don't even let my Dad drive it, and he made the downpayment. If it's not too far we can both ride up there and check it out. Besides, I know there will be a point when i don't wanna work on it sometime during the day.
