Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
Hi there, finally i decided to Turbo my 5th Gen type S.
I went down to the shop to get a quote and to get more info about this mod. A few thing i need t clear up b4 going ahead hope bors here can help. I want to run a low boost turbo (0.5-0.7) On my Type S stock internals. I would like to ask , do i really need to change my injectors? Is intercooler really a must? And will these setup affect my ATTS, and if it does how do i resolve this problems? Dear Bros and Gurus of Honda Tech pls help me. |

will this fit my JDM Prelude? Anybody using this kit? Any good? |
Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
That kit will work. Looks like its got decent parts. Not a bad price for a complete kit either.
You need to do more research first. But no, you don't HAVE to run an intercooler, but I would. Injectors are usually a must. You might be able to keep em stock at VERY low boost levels, but they will be running at a very high duty cycle which isn't good. Best to just upgrade. And you will also need a tune. |
Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
My biggest worry will be the ATTS.... how do i tackle that issue properly....
will running a small boost like 0.5 affect the ATTS big time? |
Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
Depends on your wheel torque.

Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
It's hard to say how much boost until you have trouble with the ATTS, could have problems running even .5 bar.
I'm wondering why you chose the h22 type s of all motors to turbo. It's probaly the least favorable of any to go forced induction. The H series have weaker internals and the type s h22 has very high compression. If you want to go run .7 or .8 on a stock b16/gsr I would say ok, if you wanted to do the same on a usdm h22 I would say probaly not the best idea, and for the type-s I would steer away from it, unless your going all the way.. internals and etc. Which technically wouldn't make it a type s anymore for the most part. Honestly, I think you should get an intercooler and injectors. At that point you will have to tune the piss out of it for low boost to be reliable and not have the atts get angry. IMO spending all that money on the turbo kit seems like a waste when you cant even turn the boost up all that high. Also think about if you do get the kit and the atts does go out, then what? You cant just bring the kit back. Seems like a money pit. Furthermore, it's obviously your choice. I strongly suggest reading up on turbo kits more in depth. Go google turbo h22 and see what others have said about it. And remember, most of them are talking about the milder h22, not the high compression type s you have. p.s. If I had a prelude with a badass jdm type s and wanted turbo, I would sell the type s for what $5000? Go get a regular h22 with LSD for $2300 and put $2700 plus the $1700 I wanted to initially spend on the kit towards a better, reliable turbo h22. |

Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
Let me say something about wat i want from my setup.
I think of running low boost like 0.4-0.5 just to give the car a nice torky feel. Kinda like drivng a light preaSSURE TURBO sAAB. Thats the feel i like.. not really smoking other on the rd type power. |
Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
HI got a stupid question... Alot say u cant go over 250hp due to ATTS.
May I ask , 250 is BHp or Whp??:scared: |
Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
Don't concern yourself with the ATTS. The car will still drive normally if it isn't functioning. I also don't recommend turbo'ing a TypeS. It's too nice of an engine to be messed with by a noob.

Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
lol just seeing if anyone could tell me because i'm thinking about scrappin my 98 for my new project my 93 4ws. my 98 is way to heavy and a hear alot of problems with the 4ws unit. so i'm either going to ripout the 4ws, junk the 93 and just making a 97 delsol w/ h23 because i have the engine and a del sol with a fired engine(fire recovery)

Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
After deep consideration i went ahead with my plan . It is goona take 1 week for my workshop to finish the job. And abit more time to fine tune everything.
Wish my luck guys.. hope everything pans out the way i want it to. Make report as soon as it is done up. |
Re: Turbo JDM Prelude Type S
Spend the money on and all motor setup! Its looks like you were going to buy a good turbo kit. Build the head get and hondata and injectors and tune and you might just rip on that turbo kit.
That engine is too nice to go turbo! |

To OP, do not just pay someone to do this build, but rather learn to do it yourself. What happends when you get the car back all together and later down the road something breaks off or stops working ? .. now what ? .. You going to bring the car back to the shop and have them take $ 500.00 more from you to diagnose a small problem and fix. If you're asking questions such as is intercooler a must or if upgraded injectors are a must, then you should really take a step backwards and think about this. |
