Default Tranny Question

I am in the process of getting a tranny for an H23 block/H22A4 head. After researching I've only found that people are inconclusive and argue all day long, so I'll ask specifically, with a T04 set up, for everyday driving, what would those of you with experience recommend. I don't need arguing, just asking from those with experience for their opinions. (It is going in a civic by the way.) Cheers

Is the block built? Well with the H22 head you are gonna want the H22 tranny so that you get the gearing to keep the motor in VTEC the whole time. Instead of droping out of VTEC. That way you can maximize the air flow into the engine!

WOW, I don't even remember posting that haha. I think what I meant to say was use the H23 trans. The gears are longer than those in a H22 trans. I am using a F22 trans when I get my car together, it may not be as strong as the H-series transmissions, but it is alot cheaper to replace.

It's a tradeoff...longer gears means more time in boost, but shorter gears means faster spool.

F22 is a terribly slow tranny, H23 would be fine or H22a for VTEC valve lift. I mean you'll need the lift to get that air in there:

Here are the gear ratios

F22A1-H23A1-H22A1
M2L5 - M2S4 - M2F4
3.307 - 3.307 - 3.307
1.809 - 1.857 - 1.950
1.230 - 1.320 - 1.360
0.903 - 1.034 - 1.071
0.705 - 0.812 - 0.870
4.062 - 4.266 - 4.266

Look at the final drive on the F22A!

Thanks all. This will definately help out. And yes the block will be built up. You guys have really helped out yet again! I love Honda-tech, but I usually don't get to say that as my questions are all answered with searches (with a few exceptions over the last year or two)
Cheers
