tps gone bad?
So Ive had this sputtering problem with my car...It sputters when I acclerate between like 1500 and 4000rpm....people have told me its the ignition system, I changed the cap and wires and stuff, still does it, this one guy said his lude did the same thing, replaced the coil, and it worked..I dont have the moneys to change it, so, havent done that yet, other people tell me it can be the tps, but if its the tps, wont the check engine light come on?
I already replied to this on SuperHonda, but . . . .
No, not necessarily. You can have a flat spot on the TPS, and the ECU won't think anything's wrong, other than a ham-footed driver.

I actually had the same problem...actually it was worse. Whenever i floored it, my car would seriously bog out hard and like throw me forward. So i grabbed my bible and looked around and finally came to the conclusion that i needed to change my TPS. So i took my TB off and gave it to a buddy of mine and he made two little grooves in the screws that go into the TPS and changed it out....WORLD OF DIFFERENCE!!! Bad part is that 6 months ago i paid my shitty mechanic 20 bucks for a TPS he "had laying around" THAT I FOUND OUT HE NEVER CHANGED!!!!
Now if i can only find out why im throwing code 20 and going into limp mode

so, I called honda to get the price on a new tps, they said they dont sell it seperate, I have to buy the whole fucken throttle body, which come out to 542 dollars..anyone know of any place that sells the tps alone?

Heh, that's what I ran into when I suddenly lost interest in the project.
But from what I've learned, most (if not all) Honda TPS's are interchangeable. So any civic or accord you find in a junkyard with an intact TB should have what you need. You'll need to dremel slots in the screws to get them out.
But make sure it's actually your TPS that's causing the issue. They can be tested relatively easily, and like I said before, there are about 30 different things that can cause that symptom.

If the TPS is going bad it would affect the idel. Drive down the road push in the clutch, the revs should go down slowly to idel, good TPS, Revs stick at 2-3 grand, like your throttle is stuck at half throttle, bad TPS. (Try changeing your coil.)
And no you wont get a CEL if your TPS is messed up. The only time you would get a TPS code is if it was not sending a signal,or unplugged. I messed with my TPS, on the JDM engines the TPS is adjustable. Just unscrew alittle and turn, but dont unscrew to far anf the Senser will get out of the grove on the throttle body and wont work. And you wont throw a CEL.
