Default Too much torque

well i recently adjusted my valves and against better judgement didn't use a torque wrench when installing the valve cover. Long story short, i snapped a valve cover bolt. My question is how do i go about fixing this, it looks as if they screw in from this diagram, and by looking at the bolt while valve cover was off.

So can i just replace the bolt or am i on the way to a machine shop?

which screw, by nuumber designation. and at which part of the screw is broke. if your able to remove it then you can replace it but if it's broken inside then you are on your way to the shop.

it broke on the upper part of the bolt, about midway through the threads. the bolt i'm referring to is no. 9 in the diagram. The reason i think it can be removed by hand is it appears to be threaded on the bottom. also the bolt it self looks like you could get a 8-10 mm wrench on there. (right above where it would screw into the head)

Did you break the stud or the head or the cam guide? The stud will be the easiest to fix/work on. The head, your screwed, the cam guide, you can't buy one for the car because our heads are line bored with the cam guides. IM or email me for more information on this.

Get a new stud item #9. Take your valve cover off. Use a pair of vice grip pliars and clamp on to the solid shaft part tightly and turn. If the threaded part of the stud (item #9) is broken off into the nut (item #11) and won't come out then get a new one.

If for some reason the stud (item #9) wont come out or is hard to turn then don't force it. Try tapping on the top of the stud to help loosen it.

After reading my own post one more thing, when your tapping on the top of the stud (with a hammer of course) apply loosening pressure to the stud with the vice grip pliars. Short nose pliars work better than needle nose.
