Default Thinking of getting a 97+ Prelude...

I've been looking at the 'Ludes and am seriously debating picking up a base model. I'm thinking of all that torque compared to my 95 Teg LS.

What are the easiest mods to get the HP up to 225 or so? How much do header, CAI, and bigger exhaust piping help?

225 hp at the flywheel? ihe, msd 6A, VAFC, crower cams, cam gears, valve springs and that should put you past 230. You could probably get to 220 with the type S intake manifold and the type S cams.

The ignition is by no means necessary. I/H/E, cams (w/ associated hardware), cam gears and some higher comp pistons should do it.

The Type S intake manifold is worthless. It's almost exactally the same as the USDM one. And an intake manifold and cams alone will not even get you close to the 220 ps that the Type S has. Over half of it's added power probably comes from the 1 point bump in compression. Not to mention that it might have slightly different fuel/spark maps since it's mapped for higher octane fuel.

That would be awesome Brian! I guess you'd definitely decide to make the big brakes then

My fault. I meant the intake manifold from the Accord Type R from Europe. I don't see why teh MSD wouldn't be a good investment. It won't give more than 2 hp but added spark never hurt anyone. Pistons would be a pain in the *** to put in when he can get 10 from the ihe and the other 15 from the crowers and some dyno tuning.

Default If I may..

..to get to 225hp at the crank on a 5th gen will take:

Type S Pistons
Crower/ Type S cams and valvetrain
Header [everyone has a favorite]
Intake [AEM CAI, etc..]
Exhaust
Straight Pipe
OBD1 conversion
Spoon headgasket for that added 0.2points of compression can't hurt
Also, Sun found that having the OEM intake manifold and throttle body ported and cleaned up helped quite a bit.

Here is his dyno graph w/ out pistons [ i think] figuring a ~20% drivetrain power loss, the car makes ~218 at the crank, not sure if there was any fuel/cam tuning here, none the less it should give you an idea..

Personally, I would refrain from swapping pistons, figuring the labor cost, it would be something at the very last. If it were up to me, a low-boost turbo setup could easily get you to the 225 mark and past w/ similar or smaller expense..
