Tonight on my way home cruising in fifth gear not boosting at all my car studdered and then threw a CEL, then my idle jumped up and down from 1-2K rpms.
I then pulled over and turned off the car, as soon as i restarted it the CEL went out and the car runs fine. (look at my sig. for specs on car to answer any ?'s)
please help

Re: studder then CEL (tcontesh)
a solid CEL comes on and stays on until I restart the car then it goes away.
I have an obd1 p72 ecu tuned with crome pro as stated in my signature.
the solid CEL came on while driving in fifith gear at roughly 40 mph and the car studdered, i pushed in the clutch and the rpms jumped from 1-2k. when i restarted the car the CEL went out and it drove fine.
any suggestions would be cool.

oh yeah and the car smelled kinda rich when it did that and then after restarting it was ok.

Re: studder then CEL (tcontesh)
so you tried to get the code and nothing was flashing?

are you using a .zif drive to attach the eprom to the socket? Its blue with a release lever...

Re: studder then CEL (98vtec)
no i havent tried to get the code yet and when i first saw it i thought it was prolly just an 02 sensor or something, but after it did that last night i am worried.
as far as my ecu i had a local tuner burn me an SST chip and he dealt with it all, why whats up?

Re: studder then CEL (tcontesh)
alot of people, including myself, have had problems with the zif drive coming loose from the socket, which would make the ecu go into true limp mode.

Re: studder then CEL (98vtec)
now that you mention it thats prolly what it did cause the car smelled very rich and i think the tach was hitting rev limit. 3k rpms is true limp mode correct?
is there anyway to fix that problem.

Re: studder then CEL (tcontesh)
i just took the zif drive off. I dont run an eprom like i used to tho. I run everything straight off the ostrich.

Re: studder then CEL (tcontesh)
real time tuning on the fly. I never have to change chips to upload a new map. Never have to mess with burners. 2 cables to the laptop and im ready to tune. Once im done tuning, i simply "put" the map onto the ostrich, unplug the cables from the laptop...done.

Re: studder then CEL (98vtec)
one more quick question,
is it possible for the map to get erased or is it like a chip and always there even when you disconnect the battery?

Re: studder then CEL (tcontesh)
the map is always going to be loaded onto the ostrich. Even if you disconnect the battery, your map will still be there. The ostrich is a unit in itself which can store the bin file. The battery life is approximately 75 years.

I would still check the code just incase you have a different problem.
