Default Speedometer not working

is it the speed sensor?

The VSS is the main sensor that controls the speedo. If your needles don't turn on, that suggests something else though. The needles should be controlled by the same lights and switch as the rest of your dash lights. Do those work?

That sounds less like a sensor and more like an electrical problem, like an open circuit to your speedo. IIRC, when the VSS goes bad, the tach stops working as well.

An open circuit could be caused by something like a cut wire or a faulty component preventing the electricity from flowing. The cure for an open circuit is to close the circuit.

Not true, when my VSS went out, my tach still works. I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX.
The problem I have now is a sticky Speedo. When it's cold in the morning, the speedo does not go up some times but once it's up then it's up all day.
Do you guys think it's the electronic component behind the speedo, or does it needs a lubing or cleaning?
Thanks.

Sounds like the connection on top the VSS

i had the same problems with my 4th gen when I bought it, tach worked but no spedo... replaced the sensor on the tranny with one for autozone and now, 2 years later, still works! Pretty easy install, replace the sensor first THEN if that doesn't work look elsewhere, but start with the path of least resistance. IMO
