Default Speedo/CEL problem

Ok here is my problem. I have a 93 prelude with a jdm H22a swap, and every once and awhile while i'm driving the speedo will drop from speed to zero and sit then on and off work and not work. Also sometimes(rarely) when the speedo die like above the CEL turns on but if I stop, turn the car off and back on the speedo works and the CEL turns off. What could the problem be?

Also no I don't have what code the CEL threw. Also thank you in advance for your help.

I'm sorry i'm not familiar with all of the abbreviations, what is a vss? Is it a pretty painless fix or is it a bigger project?

It's the Vehicle Speed Sensor. It's on the Tranny. I couldn't tell you how hard it is, but shouldn't be to complicated.. But I haven't changed/removed one, so I can't tell you for sure..

Search for VSS related Topics and you should find something about them.

its a friggin pain in the ***. its in an awkward spot to get to. it would be much easier to do if the tranny was out. however it can be done with it still in the car.

yeah it's a real pain in the *** to get to. Right below the throttle body on top of the tranny. You've got to take a lot of stuff off before getting to it.
