Speed range for the Sequential Sport Shift?
Hi guys, I have a 2001 Prelude with the Sequential Sport shift, I would like to know if anyone knows the right speed to change gear? Because in the manual booklet was kinda confused. I read it so many times and either I couldn't find the right page or I was confused. Please help me out, thank you.
Using SS mode doesnt have anything to do with messing up the SS tranny. It is prone to crapping out but using it in sequential mode wont increase the chancese of this.
For the original question, what do u mean the correct speed to shift into the next gear? There is never a correct speed, it depends on if you are racing, driving casual, entering passing lane.......

what? it will mess up the tranny if i use the SS mode? why would they make it then? what u mean by shifting rpm? the rpm is not the same as a regular stick shift car. It never goes up to the redline even if I slam on the gas, are u sure about this?
the SS tranny is the worst tranny for Honda's newer cars, especially for the Prelude. It's known to fail a lot, that's why Honda extended SS prelude's drivetrain warranty to 100k miles.
And how is the RPM different from a MT car?

because when i use the ss mode, the rev stick doesnt' go up to the red lines that fast, it always around 4,000 and then maybe a little bit higher, it doesn't go up as fast as a regular stick shift car.

this car is certified car, and I just bought it in January, and I only tested the ss mode once, and I just used the ss mode since a couple days ago. I been using auto mode.
i drive a 97 prelude and i use the ss everytime i drive it,it wont mess up your tranny unless u drive like an *******,all cars has some kind of proplem. When i first bought the car and drive it.It feels like it doesn want to go pass 90 n up so i had to break in the engine, and i have 134000 miles on the car n the tranny is okay, i face all kind of proplem with my car all thru the years n seem to get it fix sooner or later. And I still love my 'CAR' aka the blue devil.hahahah
i drove an SS before i bought my 5 speed, the SS (in a 2000) would let me go to the redline. i know this because i had driven tiptronics from VWs that would shift at redline or the "safe" RPM for you, the prelude SS wouldnt, it would actually let you bounce if you wanted to. it would however, downshift in the proper gear no matter what though. so i'm confused as to why yours shifts @ 4000rpm. strange to me.
it doesn't auto shift for me, im saying that it's hard to go up to the red line. For example, i started out with 1st gear right, then if i step on the gas, the rev needle goes up, and at a certain level, it's slowing down, and I can hear the engine sound louder so I didnt wanna keep stepping on the gas , so I shift to 2nd gear. So i dont know if it would actually goes up to the red line if i keep steping on the gas pedal.
you answered your own question. YOU didn't want to keep stepping on it, therefore it's not the car's fault that you stop at 4k rpm. You can basically shift whenever you want in SS mode...

back to the thread, whenever i drove the SS aggressively, i shifted a bit before it hit redline, never had a problem...of course there was a little lag in shifts compared to a 5 speed, but no probs none-the-less.

i have a 99 ss lude i drove regular auto and ss mode when i race some one never race off the line cuz its too damn slow but its good off the roll at like 30mph and always switched at about 7,600rpm then when it switches it hits 8,000rpm then goes into gear i did it for 28,000 miles with regular flush and fill of the tranny every 12,000 miles and it still died on me they want too much for another tranny so its being turned into a 5 speed with a quaif lsd so IMO trade in the auto for a 5speed i wish i still could but it was fun while it lasted

Oh don't come at me all noble like with the rules. If people ask silly questions they are going to get replies that are on the same level. N0t 0nc3 d1d 1 typ3 l1k3 d15 y0! And not once did I directly insult this guy. So please try again. I mean come on dude open your eyes. That's almost as bad as someone starting a post saying, "I can't redline my standard car. I get scared and shift out of gear. How do I conquer this?" I'll tell you how you conquer it, you grow some ***** and take it redline!

Dude, the guy is asking how not to screw up his transmission and stuff.
Of course, he got replies on how it happened to other people with the same car or what they did or what happened to their car.
They never said something about being gay or ****, if you are coming with this kiddieland stuff go ahead and pack up, because the mods will certainly help you dock yourself out of here.
So, if you have something technical to contribute, AWESOME. If you don't, keep on to other threads in GDD that may contribute from your comments.

read between the lines man, all i was saying if you're not going to post something positive to help the guy, why post at all? i mean, yea, if the guy was posting a thread just to be a dipshit, then sure, flame him so he knows its not appreciated and he's wasting everyone's time. but he wasn't, and plenty of people responded with info without letting him know he posted a gay or n00b thread.
