The reason I dont do it myself is b/c I dont have an engine hoist/stand. And I would have to get a new head gasket and new head studs. I mean I guess I could rebuild it but it makes things alot easier on me just to buy and new engine and have my mech install it.
OH, ya gonna go the easy way are ya?
I'd start doing things the hard way soon or your going to run out of dollars to fund someone else taking the fun things away from you.
Look for a friend or some one experienced and local from H-T to help you install it yourself. You can rent engine hoists and all the tools you need. So don't use lack of tools as an excuse. Lack of experience, sure. That would make anybody timid, but just take it slow. Keep a manual close at hand. Keep your computer logged on to H-T and I don't think theres much you can mess up really.
I personally would do a full motor swap for 2100 rather than rebuild if thats your only to viable options or buy the h23 block and do a h23Vtec. The h23vtec is your cheapest option and best potential output for your dollar by far. There's more than enough support on H-T to get you or your mechanic through the h23vtec swap. This requires the whole motor to be pulled. The purchase of an h23 short block. The removal of your head from your current motor as well as all the vtec components. Installing the head on the h23 block. Running a few wires here and there for vtec as your car should be prewired generally for vtec. A p13 ecu (which your h22 already has)could run your h23vtec (should get a tune on programable ecu eventually however) and make sure you don't rev it how you would an h22. It will only have the reving capacity of an h23.

Thanks for the replies.
Im aware of H23Vtec and what it requires. Thats not what Im looking for. I could have done this the first time when I yanked my h23 out and put the h22 in about 8 months ago.
I am also confident in my mechanical skills but I draw the line at rebuilding the engine of my daily driver. I did pull the head myself and am now staring at a block that could be takin out in a matter of mins.
I guess the reason I like the idea of swapping the motor is b/c of the ease and reliability factor. I know I could save $1000 and buy a new header and a ostrich and wideband with the saved money. But at this point the car is my DD. I want it to be super reliable.
And I wish I could find an engine locally. I called a few places around here. They want about $1600 for a used USDM h22 long block! Ill keep my eye on craigslist for sure tho.
