question about tires
I have 205/40ZR17 tires on my 1996 Prelude Si .... The weather just changed to very cold here. Like it is below freezing. I changed from the stock wheels and tires this week and I noticed that on the new tires I skip and hop and the wheels spin alot more when I accelerate than the stock ones. Tonight I went through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th without the tires catching the road. I just kept em spinning at about 20 mph. The worst part is when they skip. I was wondering if any body knows why this is? I thought it might be the fact that the tires are ZR rated. The tread being alot softer than stock tires and they may not do well on cold roads or cold weather? any thoughts ....
17 inch wheels mean a longer arm of torque application to the tire, increasing tq applied to the tire....then the shorter, stiffer sidewall allows this tq to reach the ground with less flex....aka you get wheel hop and spinning...
Seeing that preludes don't come with 17" stock.............I would assume. I don't think they would stock.
So..........its below freezing - and you're ripping it through 4th gear?
You have *****.........such *****.........
I won't even come out my apartment fast - because i fell on my *** earlier.......there was a huge patch of ice outside my door(i live upstairs).........so the rain hit the balcony and froze. Just look like the ground was wet..............

Get some snows off of tiresavings.com. 41/each for 195/60/R15. Viking SnowTech they rock.
And yes the compound of the tire makes a huge difference in how the grip the pavement. Also one the reasons why even a bald snow tire isn't going to grip dry pavement too well.

Mgags: it turns out that your assessment isn't right
I looked up my specific tire on BF Goodrich's website the 205/40ZR17 G Force Sport and it turns out that it is a Summer Tire, in fact the best in it's class. It is speed rated at 168mph dry/wet but NOT mud/snow
I just need to run my stock wheels and tires through winter before putting my summer tires and 17s back on in March. My stock wheels have new tires anyway.
And RudeLude, what good would those tires do me, they don't even fit my 17 inch wheels
