Default Question about a H23a

Does an H23a have VTEC? the ones in the 93-96 year prelude? I read some article on it and it said that it didn't have VTEC but my friends said that it does? Can anybody clear this up for me?

if you're talking about the 93-96 prelude then no it has a h23a1 non-vtec. the jdm accord sport wagon has a h23a though that has vtec. you can always put a vtec head on the h23a1 and it will inherit vtec properties but the block was not designed to rev high enough to take advantage of full vtec properties like in the h22.

even the si version doesn't have VTEC? the h23 im talking about has a valve cover that looks like a LS (93-96 models) valve cover. I know it doesnt have VTEC cuz i searched all around for the VTEC solenoid where its located on the h series engine and i could'nt find it. The kid that owns the car supposedly says it has VTEC but i say it doesn't.

no prelude came with a h23 that had vtec.
like said above... the only h23 that has vtec is the h23a from the accord wagon

nail on the head right there, if you want info about h23 with h22vtec head check out the essential prelude thread for h23vtec. I am currently building one now

Honda is pretty good at stamping VTEC in huge letters on the valve cover when the engine actually has VTEC.

Not all honda vtec engines have vtec stamped on them, the d16y8 just says "honda" on the valve cover

I have an Si.. the engine acts like a VTEC (not much low end power -- then kicks in at 3k) but surely enough it isn't. 160hp and 156 lb-ft isn't too shabby though.
