Default Problem with VTEC

Has anyone else ever had problems with VTEC kicking in on a 5th gen Prelude? I had no problem with it until Friday, and then all of a sudden VTEC wouldn't kick in at all. Thanks.

check your oil level. make sure the car is warmed up before you hit vtec. i hope it's not your solenoid.

Oil is fine... It was like 75 outside and car had been running for a little while... Still no VTEC.

are you taking it up to 5200k? sometimes the vtec sounds really low but it's there. you don't feel the pull? if it still ain't there you got a problem.

I'll take it there and past and still nothing. It's like it didn't exist anymore. It kicked in some yesterday. But, there were times when it wouldn't, just like Friday.

sounds like your vtec solenoid is dead.

whoa....... that's very unlikely... what about your connections on your solenoid? could they be loose? what about the possibility of a short in the signal wire??

do you have a CEL? if VTEC isn't engaging due to some problem with the solenoid or a connection you should be getting a CEL for VTEC failure.

what about oil?? what weight oil do you use? if it is too heavy it is possible that the little screen that goes to the VTEC pressure switch is clogged and not allowing it to read enough pressure for the solenoid to activate

if your vtec isnt ingaging, you should have a lower rev limit than usual. i think...
i know thats how it is when you put a vtec computer on a nonvtec car. your car will redline when your comp signals vtec. makes sense that it would work oppisite ways.
i guess all you can do is a few voltage tests on your car to see if vtec is engaging... maybe your just paranoid?????
