Default Oil usage

As I was searching there are alot of ppl using 10w30 instead of 5w30 like my friend uses(99 Prelude Base). Should he switch to 10w30 considering it is thicker will it burn less oil (not that it does but h22s in general drink). He's running motul full synthetic.

A lot depends on the climate the car is used in, as I see your based in Quebec I would stick with the 5w 30, it offers better protection at colder temperature as it is that bit thinner below freezing than a 10w 30 oil is. If you lived in somewhere like S Cal where it's warmer, to use 10w 30 would be better in my opinion.

Newer cars - 5w 30

Used cars - 10w 30

As states, since your in Canada, use 5w-30. 10w-30 is fine also, but it takes longer to warm up. It's your choice! IMO, I'd go with 5w-30.

No way. Thicker oils takes longer to break down and warm up. Therefore, it takes a while to lubricate the moving parts in the engine. Which can cause engine wear.

I used mobil 1 race oil, 15w-40 in my STi once. Even after warm up, the car felt sluggish as hell. I switched back to 5w-30 and it felt normal again.
