Heehee. My oil light blinks all the time. It's because my car is burning and leaking oil. I would change the oil then no more than 4 weeks later, I'm down to less than a quart. Bleh. I just want it to blow up already... put it out of it's misery. Rebuilds blow!!!

(Just in case you were wondering, I'm waiting for a new swap, that's why I want this motor to blow up. Haahaa!!)

things to consider:

#1: CHECK THE OIL LEVEL!!!!!! if it's low, that's your problem right there.

assuming oil level is fine,
you could have a problem with:
-the oil pickup (oil pan gummed up/dented)
-the oil pump could be failing
-the oil pressure sensor could be gummed up/failing
-poor electrical connection

first thing: do an oil change, run the car for a bit. good oil, not 89cents/quart stuff.
check the oil pan to make sure it's not dented or damaged, then the connections to the oil pressure sender, then you might need to change the sensor (test it first, should be easy with a multimeter). if all that is fine, you're looking at removing the oil pan to check for gunk, or taking apart the oil pump to check that. at this point, it's getting a lot more expensive, so hopefully it's not that.

It's around 33 lb/ft for the drain bolt. BUT CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE OIL IN THE CAR NOW. Dip stick takes 5 seconds to check.

k... so i woke up this morning.... went to my 'lude... turned the motor on for about 15 seconds... shut it off... took out my dip stick... wiped it off... put it back in all the way.... took it back off.... well what do you know... i was literally so close to having no oil in my car.... freaked the hell outta me...

so i grabed my backpack... walked about 2 miles to the store 'n bought 5 quarts of castro oil.... came back.... put 4 quarts into my motor.... started up the car for 15 seconds... wiped dipstick again... put it back in and took it back out.... 'n it was a lil bit under the second hole mark.....

drove it around when it was warmed up.... no more blinking light....

now i'm wounderin' wtf is goin' on here..... 2 months ago i did my own oil change.... a week ago i check my dip stick and i had as much oil as 4 quarts or so from what the dip stick tells me.... 'n all of a sudden no oil?.... i'll have to check it out tomorrow under the car at school..... if there's 2 things great about having an auto shop class in high school... 1 is all the tool is avaliable for ur needs... and 2 is a lift to make doin' sumthin to ur car much easier...

thanxs for all your input and help....

first of all dont let the car run at all before checking the oil. best time to check it is first thing in the morning after the car has been sitting all night. you're guaranteed a perfect reading.

either the car is burning the oil, or you have a leak somewhere. check to see if the coolant is ok (could be head gasket), check the drain bolt (could just need a new gasket), check around the oil pan, check the oil filter (could have been a bit loose), look around the engine bay. have you noticed any leaks?

could be your oil cooler oring (oring between oil filter and block) that could make you lose oil real quick....but there would be a huge oil spot everywhere you park. if this is the case, it is an easy fix.

Yeah poor H!

DocHonda - My 98 Leaks... and from what I hear... almost all preludes leak - AHEM - I mean "mark their spot"

Dude; Mine doesnt leak. Neither should yours, Honda is famous for their tight clearences between components!

You should lookafter its engine, Check where the leak is coming from by wiping off the oil then checking it again in a day or so! then fix accordingly.

And TruNinja619: if the leak is coming form the drain bolt then get a new seal for it; If i remember right Honda reccomend changing this each time you chang your oild to ensure a perfect seal!

And did you change your oil filter at the same time like you should have?
if you did then check for any leaks around it and tighten it up as much as possibl; you can lose a lot of oil fast from the Filter mount!

eeeeek. That's not a "low oil" light - that's the oil pressure light. If that comes on, there's literally NO oil going through the engine's oil galleries for the duration that the light is on.

How many miles/Km are on the car? It could very well be burning oil. If that's the case, check your oil level every time you fill the car with gas.

You'll probably need to have your engine rebuilt soon..

OTT: whenever i change my oil.... i always put a new filter...... so yes i did....

kstokes: i have close to 114k miles on it....

i lifted up my car today at my auto class today..... i saw no leaks......from where the eye can see.... 'n i was standing straight up with the car above my head...

i told my shop about my situation..... he first checked my pcv valve 'n told me theres a lot of crap on it... so he told me the first thing i should replace is that.... 'n see if that was it.... since its a cheap part ($5-$7)... basically start from there...

but yea... i'll keep u guys posted...
