need some advice
I bought a 5th gen prelude from a friend about 6 months ago for a really good price. it has 225,000 miles and rides good. I changed the oil about 2 months ago and I used 5w30 mobil 1 synthetic blend. well I checked the oil today and it burned up a bunch of oil. I had to go buy 2 quarts of oil and it still needs about half a quart. I want to change my oil again but should I use a different type of oil? what oil is good for an engine with that many miles. I live in texas so it is hot out here. I also have a little leak from the oil pan but not that big to leak that much oil so I am guessing maybe I need to try a different type oil?
Going to a thicker oil will slow the leak / and oil consumption some. Get away from synthetic also since you are having this problem. Synthetic protects great but burns/leaks easier. I would probably go with a 10w30. I use Castrol. With it being so hot it isn't going to cause any problems at all to go to that weight.
