Need a 4th gen
Hello guys, I've always been in love with the prelude, had a few older ones back in the day and need another car for mostly fun and commute so ofcourse the prelude comes to mind first. Now questions, I havent been keeping up in a while, but what would you guys say are the major things I need to look out for in buying a 95-96, se or si, 5 speed. I dont really want mods, stock is preferred by me. Any common problems or things to watch out for at certain miles? Lemme know guys. Thanks...
Great choice. I LOVE my 92 Si.
Honestly, I don't think there are too many issues with the car. Comes with a nice engine (H23 and H22 are very impessive)
Good luck in your search!!

When I bought my 92 Si, it took me forever to find a decent one. I bought it from an older, private owner that only put a short-ram intake in it. The paint and body was still in great condition so I got lucky.
The only thing that really turned me off about the 4th gen Preludes is the weather stripping in the back (at the very bottom of the back window.) All 4th gen weather stripping goes bad after a certain amount of time regardless of how you care for it. So don't mind if the weather stripping isn't there... Just make sure the car is in proper running condition with all the regular maintance all done, you'll be fine.
P.s. Don't buy a Lude that has a rebuilt motor, mine's rebuilt and it's leaking and eating oil!!! I probably have less than a quart of oil in that thing, but oh well... Time for a new motor!!!

thanks for all your help, I'll look for a nonrebuilt engine, but I used to have a Z with the same synchros problem. Lasted me 30K miles like that, but wondering when they usually go bad? And also, anyone see any difference between the different models? Can't get an AWD in stick either right?

yes, its VERY hard to find a H series motor rebuilt correctly!! Most people don't take the time to really ensure the piston/wall clearance and proper boring stones where used..

Uh oh. I am having my H22 rebuilt. Anything I should stress to the rebuilder to pay closer attention to??

Gotcha, no rebuilt engines. When do the factory engines generally start to eat oil or cause problems? arrite guys, what about other common mechanical problems, power steering, CV, AC? Any suspension problems? Anything besides the tranny syncros? any hesitation problems, how's the general body integrity, interior problems, water leaks? Anything to avoid, any recommendations? And what about the 5th generation, anyone know similar problems on those.
