most horse power for least money
i just got my 92 prelude si, i am 16 and have a small income, trying to find somethings that will help the appearence and the power of my car that will make the biggest impact for the least amount of money. Any pointers??

Re: most horse power for least money (w.a.lude)
Well, Im not sure what ur budget is like. But a K&N filter wouldnt hurt, or if you can afford it, an intake, a good (not dc) header, catback.

Re: most horse power for least money (Evil Nick M)
Weight reduction, remove power steering pump, AC,
|
Basics is what everyone starts with, Generic Intake (roughly $60 off ebay) and a nice filter would be the first thing I would do... it's the first thing I did. Header and Exhaust will run around $300-500 each for something decent. You might wanna save up for those and get something that's gonna be worth it though. So for now I'd do an intake and save up for whatever accessories you want. If you want some appearence things, a nice set of lightweight 16's or 17's would be good. But as far as body kits if that's what you're referring to, Don't let anyone tell you what's ugly and what's not, it's your car do what you want with it https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

Re: (PetroGuyX)
yea, intake and filter, then simple weight reduction, weight reduction is normally free speed https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

i would say nitrous but you are only 16.
get a header from DC/airmass and cat-back exhaust system. i would leave the stock intake but remove the resonator and drop in a k&n. drop the lude 1.5 " and slap on some nice looking 16" rims. look here for some good looking ludes https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=622994 |
Re: (SUB-0 H23)
i wouldnt get the dc header. ive heard bad things for along time on the prelude ones
|
lower it, and get new tires. you'll notice a huge difference.
as far as engine performance goes, nitrous is the cheapest way to make lots of power. |
Re: (bad-monkey)
invest in a SRT4. You get more power than you dream about for a small price.
|
Re: (Kal)
i wouldnt get a dodge neon ive heard bad things about them for a long time LOL
|
Re: (flashmang)
|
Dodge Neons are utter POS's, a friend of mine has that new SRT-4, and let me tell you, its not all its cracked up to me, your better of getting a mazdaspeed protege or something like that...

Honestly, a cheap ebay CAI w/ a K&N filter, a nitrous kit, and removing the balancer belt are about the only "cheap" ways to get noticeable power from these cars. After those, it gets expensive fast. |
Re: (LudeyKrus)
nawwzz....the big bottle..no, make it two...
|
GReddy doesn't have an H23 header?
and what's wrong with DCs? mine is just fine. could look a little better, but it does what it is supposed to. especially for $100 (used). |
Re: (iakona)
Nitrous is the best power adder for the money. Hands down. Got my ZEX dry kit for $200, got a bottle heater for $75 and had some fun. Bolting turbo on in about 2 weeks.
I'm 17... turbo a bad idea for me? I don't drive like most kids though, I actually baby my car. Take care of your car, and it'll take care of you. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: most horse power for least money (w.a.lude)
get you a megan racing header (dc copy) from ebay for less than $200 then get you a megan racing n1 type muffler, get a custom pipe from the catalytic converter back, and get you an ebay cold air intake. all this can be done for well under $1,000. the only part you probably couldnt do is the exhaust

I've had the DC header on my '94 VTEC since '98 with no problems... |

Re: (red91sit)
i have the dc for the h23. i know its not the best but its the only one out there as far a i know. i definately noticed a difference from the stock header. you can get an ebay cai for like 30$ but i wouldnt recomend one unless you live in the desert. hydrolock is no fun especially if you have a tight budget.
take a look at this https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=877178 ebay cai 30 good filter 25 used dc 150 aem pullies 150 exahust 400 atleast nitrous 300 suspension 600 tires 400 (assuming you installed it all yourself) everything after this is big $$$ |
Re: (Deckedlude)
I have a sweet Apex RS catback exhaust that is used (7.5K on it) with a few scrapes on the bottom of it but can't see unless under the car. GREAT low-mid range gains for street driving, and it sounds awesome (low, deep throaty tones when WOT, but a OEM sound when cruising). They don't even make this exhaust anymore, so it is a real find. SCC recommended it back in their Prelude exhaust comparo in 2000. Mosts exhaust will cost $400-$550 new > mine is yours for only $200 plus shipping to you (or free for local pick up).
