LSD
Note that theyr two types of ways they make LSDs .. one is with plates, and the other is gears .. OEM & Quaife both use gear LSDs .. I think most other companys (KAAZ, Cusco, Ect ..) use plates / discs .. I personally think the gear set-up would be better ..

the phantom grip Theory is to only work in a straight line. If you are building a strip car then the Theory would work with a "phantom slip"
Stick with a Quaife or Kazz or OEM. i have a OEM and it has done really well for me. I'm basically stock as far as power adders go. I do run the car pretty had for Auto-x. and it seams to respond very well.
Good luck and spend the $ for the good equipment. you will NEVER be dissapointed.
I have drove a Phanton slip car and it was VERY unpredictable when and where it decided to work.
Good luck

the theory of a phantom grip is to bind the spider gears in the tranny with a spring and some metal plates. apparently it works when OPM makes the diff for B and D series trannies, but phantom grip's version is either shoddily made, designed differently, or both. it's a piece of ****. it works consistently for a short period of time before it starts randomly deciding when it wants to work and when it doesn't. if you like tearing down your transmission to replace phantom grip units every few months, please buy one. otherwise, save yourself the time and the headache and get yourself a quaife.
it may cost double what a PG does, but once it's in it'll always work. probably longer than you own the car.
a Kaaz will "work" better in that you'll get more affirmative LSD engagement out of it, but since it's a clutch type it requires more maintenance: a special MTF and periodic teardowns to replace the clutchpacks.
if you want to go the OEM route, you have to buy a whole new tranny, specifically the m2b4 tranny, which might be a good option if your m2y4 OEM tranny is shot (synchros, shiftforks) and you don't want to rebuild it.

If i had the money i would get a quaife or kaaz. If your on a budget you cold try the obx lsd, same design as the quaife but quality is not the same. If you search there have already been a few threads on the obx lsd working fine without breaking anything.
