Default Knocking sound from engine bay

started prolly about 2 days ago.. i'm getting this weird knocking sound in my engine bay.. can't really figure out where it's coming from. anyways u can only hear it when the rpm's are a little over 2k. two of my friends say it could be something called "rod knock" but they say they're not exactly honda experts so they don't really have an idea.. anyone have any other ideas? think it's an issue covered under warranty?

usually rod knock happens when the motor is low on oil for quite a while. I would definetly take it to a mechanic and see what they say.

you would typically hear rod knock no matter what RPM the engine is at. I don't konw if preludes have starter clutches, but one of my bikes made a sound just like a rod knock and it turned out to be that. either way, you should have a tech look at it

sounds like the beginning of a spun bearing to me. Just happened to my motor actually. Started out just over 2k rpms then progressed into almost all the time untill finally i lost oil pressure and the car just died.

that actually happened to me today.. i was on my way to class.. was doing about 70 and then i hear this weird sound like metal spinning and hitting something else that was metal.. i took the car out of gear and as soon as the rpms dropped, the engine died.. while i was on 280.. =\

i brought the car back to the dealer and they just called me a min ago.. said that yes my engine is gone. what i'm worried about is whether or not the mods on my car (which were already there when i bought it from the dealer) will affect my warranty status. they offered the 7 yr or 100,000 miles ext. warranty.. i went for it. they shouldn't have sold or offered it to me if those modifications would affect it right? or is it just my dumbass that went for it?

If the mods were there before you bought the car and they sold you the warranty, then it should be covered. They should have taken that into consideration. So I would say fight for a new motor. Chances are they are going to fight back. If only there was a way to prove those mods were there before the motor blew.... maybe it was noted on an original "Used car checklist" by a technician? I would check into it. Some dealerships will work with you, some will be a pita. Best of luck to you.... (Am I adding to thread jacking?) Lol sorry if I am.

that's what i'm hoping for.. they're waiting for a honda care tech to come out and determine whether or not it's covered.. it should be.. otherwise i'm definitely gonna fight it.. i still remember the name of the rep that sold the car to me but he doesn't work at the dealer anymore.. i'm sure he'd be willing to vouch for me since.. i mean ****.. he got the commission for it..
