Key Code & Stereo Code same?
Hey Everyone.
Sorry if this is an old topic, but I did a search and really haven't found an answer.
I just purchased a 98 lude for my daughter. (First Honda Here) So please bare with my newbie-ness.
The owner mentioned replacment keys costing about $40.00. (Dealer Item). But looking in the Glove Box Manual. It mentions an Key Code. Now the seller gave me a code for the stereo, so is that the same for the Key? (BTW I was really impressed with the Stereo, for being a factory one.)
In a search, someone mentioned that the code would be on the Original Key (4 digits). Well one key I have has 4 letters, but I'm thinking that might just be a key name maybe? On the otherside the key has a Stamped in Letter and Number. What would an example of the code on the key be? Letters or Number?
Also on the other Key we got. it don't have the 4 letters like the other one. So I'm thinking it was a replacmet. It also is a little tricky to get that key to work, but after some fiddling around I got it to finally turn the ignition.
We'd like to get another key so each one of us has one. So anybody have any suggestions what to look for.
Thank you.

P.S. This is the first Honda I've ever been in or drove. and I already love it! Hell I'm thinking on getting me one now. LOL

Key code and stereo codes are different. Prelude keys have a special chip inside of them, cause Preludes have an imbolizer system, which keeps theives from stealing the car. Without the key, you can't start it. If there is ever a time that you disconnect your battery, you'll need a code for you radio. Just ask the dealership, and they should give it to you for free.
