Hi guys, i'm in the middle of a JDM h22a swap and i'll be needing a header tomorrow so i was just wondering which is the best for the money? Yeah i could do a search but that's boring and I haven't been keeping up with any of the new stuff, besides, it gives you guys something to write about. I ran a DC sports 4-2-1 header on my h23 and it was nice, i liked the midrange gain. How's the greddy header? I don't really want to spend 1300 on a header so the SMSP is a no go. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have a JDM h22a that I swapped into my 93 SI 4WS...Currently I'm using DC Sports Stainless Steel 4-2-1 headers. They work pretty good for the time being; they get the job done well. If you really have some $$$, I'd grab a mugen power header...that would be sick. But for a $400-600 stainless steel, you cant go wrong with DC Sports 4-2-1 or even 4-1.

spoon headers aren't made anymore, and they're also only the upper half of the header, to be mated to the bottom half of the JDM header assembly.
for $400-600, i'd get the prospeed or greddy.

I say GReddy, If you look around you can find them for less then $400.
I actually found mine for like $295 brand new

It does, that's how it's designed. Considering you probably can't find it it's really not worth discussing. Plus the Spoon top piece was prone to cracking at the welds due to the different expension rates of the top SS piece and the bottom mild steel stock header

I would agree with Satan, either GReddy or Prospeed, with my vote going towards the Prospeed only because I have seen a couple of dynos with this header and the results were impressive, but the dynos were from H22A owners who have more then just your basic I/H/E.
dont forget that the Prospeed will require some A/F tuning as well. so tack that price on to the total and budget for that. sure you can run it as is, but i wouldnt. it leaned my car out A LOT! plugs went from pitch black to casper white, others have seen the same thing on the dyno as well.
well, mine is on the milder side, and cost is an issue. i found a used set, not a bad price even by DC standards. if they suck someone please say so, but if they are close to the others (prospeed or greddy), then for approx half the price i can live with that. i can have a harder collector welded if need be, i have a friend who is a great welder. i would be pairing it with an N1 cat back and already have AEM CAI and ferrea +1mm valves. VAFC is most likely next, but once again, $$$ dictates all.

Where can i find a prospeed header? The prospeed site is down. I still need a header and all the shops around here in AZ don't stock the greddys (i had to come home from so cal to work on my car as i have no tools in LA). I even got crazy and checked around for the DC one to no avail.
What the hell should i do for a header? As of now, i'm just planning on cutting or drilling whatever i need to in order to get my DC h23 b pipe to fit the OEM jdm primary pipes as HMO took a plasma cutter to the JDM b pipe. I could order the greddy header but that'd take 2 weeks to get here and i'd rather rig something up long enough for me to drive back to LA and pick one up there.
Thanks for the input, price does matter to me as i only have about 2grand left and i want to save some money for cams cam gears and a vafc with a little over for my gf. I'm supposed to be getting paid for research now back in LA but i had to postpone that because of the stinkin 160,000 mile h23 rod bearings not being able to handle a 7200 rpm misshift (oops). It was for the best as i now have 40 more ponies and VtEcH y0!

limpmode - i ran the dc header on my h23 for 4 years and enjoyed it. It gave the most noticeable power gains in the mid range according to my butt dyno. Everybody around here says that they suck but they're cheap and produce good gains.
I installed the header after i had an intake and exhaust so i suppose the stock header was the bottleneck which could explain why i felt such good power gains.

probably. i think i am going to pick up the spoon one, simply b/c i can get it for less than a new DC right now. i'll see if i can't get a before and after dyno done on it, since i don't think i've seen it here b4. i think there's a free dyno day coming here soon.
