Default H23 Head.. How bad does it flow??

I hear all this talk about how bad the non-vtec heads flow (h23, b18b) and i was wondering how much better does the h22 head flow compared to the h23? The reason i ask is that my bottom end is built for turbo. Now i'm trying to decide on a turbo. I see all these dyno graphs of different turbo's on b18c's and b16's with good whp numbers. since the h23 head is bigger then those b18c's and b16's heads how does it flow compared to those? will the added displacement of the motor and bigger head allow for more and better air consumption?

i know this might be a little confusing so i appoligize.

Everyone always rags on the H23 head as being poor, but noone actually justifies why they feel that way.

I honestly believe that the H23 head is not a bad design. Sure, it wasn't designed to flow like the H22 head, but it's far from bad.

I remember XES sayin how it is very possible to have the H23 head worked so that it will flow as much as an H22 head.

flow bench numbers
stock are 117 feet per min@ 27 inches of mercury this outflows a chevy LT1 head think i am a full of **** do your own research

my head ported and polished was flowing 160fpm @ 27" mercury
Any questions on this information can be asked to dc2mk he was in my chassi fab class when i did the porting and polishing, he has since graduated wyotech

i suppose everyone might rag on the H23 becuase of the casting marks on the head they are deep and that hurts flow i removed them all and enlarged the ports a little.

A fully reworked H23 head will flow about as efficiant as a stock H22 head... keep that in mind, ABOUT AS EFFICIANT... Thats after being worked to high hell

The B series heads flow extremely well, as oes the H22... In most cases, the H22 head will flow well enough in stock trim so theonly thing really needed is a good valve job and a few of the casting flaws removed...

Flow numbers dont mean much though, you can hog port the **** out of a head and it will put some big flow numbers up... that doesnt mean its going to perform well on the dyno/track

High flow numbers are a double edged sword... could be bad, could be good...

The dyno tells the real story...

Umm... that would qualify as reworking a head which is what I touched on in my above post
