Default fuel on the floor

ok this was really weird to me. i started my car after it was sitting for a day. backed it out of the garage and saw a big puddle on the ground. i smelt it and it was gas. so naturally a run back to the car and shut it off. i checked all the lines and nothing. so then turn the ignition on accessory, nothing. so i start the car and still nothing, no leaks at all. so now im really confused, i hadn't messed with the fuel lines at all. the last thing i did was put on a new alt belt but drove right after with no problems. has anyone else had this issue before, thanks for any help

your tank may be leaking at a certain point (usually at the seam in the middle) This happened on my crx. There is no leak until you fill the tank above 1/2 and then.......trouble. Try adiing a little gas at a time (in your driveway, not at the gas station, unless you want your car towed.) untill you see a leak. If it leaks after adding gas to the tank, you'll need to repair or replace the tank.

If the leak is at the rear of the car, inspect the tank. If its inbetween the tank and the front of the doors, inspect the fuel lines undeneath your car. If its at the fron of the car, ispect fuel filter connections, injectors, fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator.

its called wicking, like an old kerosene lantern, the kerosene wicks (soaks) up the wick and burns in the open air. You fuel injector (s) are wicking through their wireing to the computer, open up the ECM and smell for gas. The fuel may have dripped off before it got to the ECM into the floor, goog luck.

If so, you will need to replace all your injectors, OH DAMN, didnt even look, is this a fuel injected model.......................

the leak was from the front. there was nothing on the filter, injectors, regulator, rail, or any of the lines. i know what you thinking "it had to have come from somewhere" and thats what is boggling my mind there was no visual place that it was coming from. and today its not doing it at all. could it be that something was holding fuel and by some freak chance when i started it, it shot fuel on the floor? or something like that.

to the op: did you remember letting someone drive your car or hitting a bump in the road...you may have damaged your fuel hard lines...there may be a hole down there in the pipe thats leaking fuel....thats the only logical explanation i can think of...that or you have some kind of fuel gremlin in your car...eating up them lines yo...

WTF?!?!?!
I'm pretty sure that fuel cannot flow through the engine wiring harness into the ECU. Call me crazy, but I don't think that is possible. I'm gonna raise the flag on that one.

how long was the car sitting around for?

if it was parked for while most of the gas should have evaporated by the time you started her back up again.

maybe it wasn't from your car?

but just to make sure i'd take a closer look at your fuel filter,

You can raise the flag if you like my friend but dont bet the farm on it, where do you think I got the name 'wicking' from. I didnt say that it happened on a Honda but it is a possibility on some ECMs or I would not have said it, I will admit that I thought he was talking about the floor of the car, not the garage. How else would fuel get on the floor of the car if not down the wire harness.

Wicking is real but maybe not on this car, I concede to that. Saturns are famous for wicking into the ECT sensor connector and wire, I think maybe the wicking issue first popped up on a GM but I would not swear to it.
