Default Fuel Filter replacement question

Im replacing the fuel filter on my Prelude, and the new filter has 3 washers with it. Two of the washers are for the Banjo bolt on top (they are shown in the manual), but Im not 100% sure what to do with the third washer. Its not shown in the manual, and I didnt see one like it when I took the old filter off. Its smaller than the other two, and it looks as if it could go on the pressure line that connects to the bottom of the filter. Please advise. Thanks!

I finished the install Sunday, and I didnt use the third washer. I used the two for the banjo bolt, and put it back together. The install turned out the be much easier than I expected. It wasnt a walk in the part, but I would (and will!) do it again without giving it a second thought. I asked this same question on Prelude online, and a member there said that the third washer is for the bolt that holds the fuel filter bracket closed. It doesnt really need it, so I just have a spare washer now.

I was going to replace the filter last night and I had major trouble getting the bottom bolt unscrewed off the filter. I was holding the Filter with a 19mm Wrench and the other bolt with a 14mm. I couldn't get that mother off... I think I rounded that bolt off. And I was bending the bottom fuel line out of it's original shape. I gave up and put the top banjo bolt back on. I think I'll take it to a shop to take it off for me

I have two questions for you. First, are you turning the ratchet in the right direction? If the open end of the crowfoot is pointing up, you should be pushing the ratchet toward the passenger side of the car. If you are doing this by yourself, it may be hard to hold the ratchet that is holding the filter, and the one that's holding the fitting. I got the fitting to *slightly* loosen while holding both, and finally got it loose while just loosening the fitting without supporting the filter. Nothing was bent, and the fitting isnt rounded off.

Second question is, are you using a flared crowfoot, or a crowfoot that looks like the end of a regular open end wrench. (squared, and open at the end) A flared crowfoot looks like a box end wrench with enough matierial cut out so it can fit over a pipe or line. This will prevent the fitting from being rounded off. See my post on Prelude Online, I go into detail about the procedure I used: http://www.preludeonline.com/showthr...threadid=57919

The third washer is for the fuel filter inlet line.

I saw the third washer in the parts diagram that includes those lines and the fuel filter, but the Service Manual doesnt mention it. Not only that, I didnt see one of those washers when I took the old filter off. It may be that this was used on the earlier 5th Gen Preludes, but mine (2001) didnt have one. I didnt use the third one, and I dont see any leaks or smell any fuel.
