a crazy idea but...
does anyone know of a prelude being converted to a RWD drivetrain?? i was thinkin just swappin the s2000 rear drivetrain with some custom work or would this be too far-stretched? i'm not plannin on even attempting converting my car to RWD, which would be nice, but it's just something i was thinkin about. how sweet would it be to have a RWD prelude? and how much work would have to done? i'm thinkin the engine would have to be rotated so it's not traversely mounted, not to mention reworking the entire rear suspension, a lot of custom work i'm sure and probably not worth the money unless you have the money to spend like that.
Some friends and I have been throwing that idea around for a while. Basically, the 3g would work best for the conversion since theres a channel for the 4ws shaft to go the back wheels. The biggest problem is finding a rear end with gearing that would work well. The S2000 rear end probably wouldn't work due to the engine turning the wrong way and the NSXs would be too expensive. So you'd have to look outside of Honda for a rear end.
Next would be hood clearance. Turning the engine sidways would cause the valve cover to hit. The suspension shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just get a high end kit so that spring rate and dampening can be adjusted.
It can be done but it won't be cheap or easy. When I win the lottery I plan on doing it though.
