You need a MSD Blaster 2 or whatever coil and an adapter that is like the end of a spark plug to modify the distributor cap. You could get these 2 items from MSD.

If you know anyone that reads honda tuning magazine, I was flipping through one and they did exactly this for an H series engine. I think it was in november, there's pictures and everything.
The shop that did my motor swap is converting to external coil but I am stuck trying to find the plug that runs from the coil to the wiring harness. Any idea where I can find this? or is there a way around this?
If you are doing the swap from an h23 you should be using the h23 harness. The h23 harness already has the plug on it for an external coil. Use the h23's distributor and external coild and you are done.

no i have the internal coil one it came with and am using the jdm harness, i just want it external coil so i can a msd setup (well and i fried either the coil or the ignitor, so what better time)

So has the car run at any point after the swap? I thought it was said the JDM harness could not be used b/c it would not reach?

get MSD ignition and Coil
distributor cap - get original honda for External connection or OEM -
Honda - 30102-P12-A01
Honda - 30102-PT3-A12
Nipparts - J5 324 025

no the car hasnt ran yet but iv got check engine lights and am slowly but surely fixing them, about the JDM harness iv also heard you could or at least shouldnt use it, as far as it not reaching i didnt really have a problem, befor i dropped it in i re-taped it all, then ran all the wires under the ABS for a cleaner look ( big project car)
well if you can see the blue and yellow that is the jdm blue and black/white. what is leave the blue wire the way it is and rune the black/white wire to the dist and back to the dist.
sorry i needed to leave and i don't know what the hell i just wrote. ok lets take it from the top.
For USDM dist on JDM Motors
On the 2 pin wire conecter, there is one blue wire and a black/white. the blue wire is the tach signal wire and the black/white wire is the 12 volt ref. voltage to the coil.
On the 10 pin conecter the green wire (6th pin)is the coil signal wire. this wire sends the signal to the coil and it makes that primary circuit puls creating the spark.
What you have to do is run a wire from the green wire (6th pin) to the negative terminal of the coil and the black/white wire to the positive termial.
For JDM dist. conver. to external Coil
If you just want to run the jdm dist. with out the ignition module (with the original usdm coil) all you do is cut the green wire (internal on the coil) inside the dist. and run it to 3rd pin terminal of the coil. You have to run the black/white wire to the 2nd pin of the coil. finaly you have to run a fused battery wire to the 1st pin of the harnest. if you have the original coil harnest you can look at the colors on the diagram.
if you want to use an aftermarket coil i dont remember if you run the the blue wire or the black/white wire but i think its the blue wire. you run it to the negative side of the coil and a fused positive wire to the positive terminal on the coil.
for the ignition module (MSD or CSI) it depends on what kind you have.
