Default compression and horsepower

im going to be fitting an accord type R cylinder head to my lude the thing is that the accord type R comes with 11:1 compression and my lude has 10:1.

how much does 1 point of compression equal in horsepower

There's no real set formula, considering every motor is different. Plus, mods and fuel octane and such will affect it.

man he just told you you cant exactly tell have the head milled or a thinner headgasket and flat face valves and get that 11.1-1 or more out of it and dont lose any power

just checking with fastfu. but I dont believe the cyclinder head from the accord will change compression? isnt it the pistons?

Dont get me wrong I know you can change compression with milling and flat valves and such. but are the dishes in the accord head different then the prelude?

i know that the head won't change the compression i was asking what the hp difference was betwwen 10:1 and 11:1
the accord type R has 212hp and my uk 2.2 prelude has 185hp
i was trying to work out how much hp i will gain without fitting 11:1 pistons

you will probably make up more than half of that 17hp with the cams.....but the pistons would be a good choice....you could always get flat face valves and a thin hg to get 11:1.....

no-one makes flat face valves for the accord type R as they have 60 degree valve seats whereas the prelude H22 has 45 degree seats

Just about any engine machine shop should be able to regrind valves to accomodate any seat angle. Or talk to valve companies available in the UK about valves that come with a 60º angle. Milling the head .025" and getting cam gears to adjust for the retardation will increse your compression a bit too.

1 point in compression is usually about an increase in 4% of power

does the higher compression also help with torque asmuch as hp? Or does it just maily help with hp?

wow

dude horsepower is a function of torque, you cannot get one without the other. Look at a dyno graph, look at 5252 RPM what do you see.

Horsepower = torque * revs/minute * minute/60 s * 2*pi * 1/550
Horsepower = torque * revs/minute * 1/5252

Horsepower just means how much torque your engine is making at a given RPM.
