the transmission. it's a hand grenade. has trouble lasting 100,000 miles and makes buying an automatic 5th gen absolutely pointless.

otherwise, they're fairly trouble free. might be oil consumption issues as well as shock knock, but other than that, nothing really big or difficult to fix.

yup, the auto tensioner is kinda crappy, but get it swapped for a manual tensioner when the timing belt gets changed.

if you got a 02 rsx then trade it in for an 02 type S and it will be plenty fast. faster than any 5th gen lude stock. dunno about 4th gens because they are much lighter than 5th gens ~100 pounds. Vtec sounds awesome in the type s aswell as in the prelude. do you only drive automatic cars? or is a 5 spd okay?

The type-s is mine and it's a 6 speed. The civic has a b20vtec swap and it's a 5 speed. I'm gonig to sell my civic for 5 thousand, and foot the rest to get my girl a car.
She's driven my old s2000 before, but manuals scare her. So, i'm looking for an auto black 97 up prelude.

The RSX-Type S is only faster in low end, but on highways, Prelude beats them all day, well at least that happens to me when I race my friends Type S

Really doesn't matter how fast it is. Just don't want it breaking down all the time like an s2000.

If you are looking for an auto, do not buy a '97-up Prelude.
