Default Comments and Help on an H22 build

I posted this in the All-Motor forum but no one anwsered so i figured i'll post it up here.

OK heres the deal with what i'm planning to do or have in mind.

My current motor is a H22A4 with Type-S pistons and i'm happy with it but i was thinking about doing something that i haven't heard alot of people do.

To do list:
F20B crank
F20B rods (maybe aftermarket if needed)
Sleeve my H22A4 block and bore it to 89mm
Endyn 89mm Roller Wave 11.5:1 pistons
New Oil pump
Stronger timming belt
ACL bearing or OEM Honda

Let me know what you think, any ideas of anything that i missed or what not.

i think the rod legth will acctually lower compression.
but id like to know also. heres how you find out. get specs of the f20b's rod legth, and deck heigth. then compare that to the h22's.
though ive heard that it will work, i think you need to use the h22 rods
but again i dont know for sure, somone please elaborate

btw, then there is always decking the block, if the pistons cdont come the whole way up to the top, you might be able to deck the shizta outta the block, then retap for the head studs. though this is mearly an idea, i doubt it would really work. LOL
maybe someone that does know can help you

In the end my builder talked me out of that saying I would miss the torque. The stroke will make less compression than the h22a piston specs so I think I would go with something like an IB 12.5:1 piston.

It's a lot of work to get a high revving motor. I know a guy that ran an F20B block with S2S2 cams and races on the track everyweekend and he is switching back to h22a.

I think getting longer cutom rods would be better. would also give an even better r/s. ratio..

As for missing the torque.. Yeah.. in a prelude. Would make a pretty crazy race motor for a civic.

I dont see a problem with the f22 crank. I have heard good stuff about it. I think you should just stay with h22 or maybe h23 rods (if possible noot sure if you can) and some good pistons. It would be pretty nice!

I'd have to use the F23 crank cause of the larger mains, but also that would throw the displacement to 2.4 or something. And depending of the rods to find out the r/rs it might not be worth it or if it would even work.

he would have to use an h23 crank too

if you put the f22 crank in there and use the h23 rods, you'd have yourself an h23vtec...just keep in mind though, the f22 and h23 (same crank) weren't designed to rev so at the max, 7200 rpm's would be it...most people blow their motors up for revving higher than this...

as for destroking to the f20b crank and rods, i don't like the idea really...there's just something about a bigger motor that needs to stay big...sure, it would be high revving at 8200 rpm or whatever, but your power delivery would be shitty...also, i'm pretty sure the f20b and the h22 share the same block, so you wouldn't have to deck the block in order to do this conversion...good luck finding that particular crank and rods though...

yes...just checked....f20b, h22, and h23 all use the same block....h23 and f22 share the same crank

yes but the rod legths are different. i myself would like to have the R/S ratio on some type s h22a pistons. with the right legth rod to get it back up to the normal compression. in a civic, that would be a awsome set up
also, if anyone HAS a f20b crank, and possibly rods. please...let me know

still dont know if you can just put the crank and rods, or use a different rod, and get the same r/s ratio in a h22.
