How do you know which O2 sensor is bad

put a DSO (digital Storage Oscilliscope) on it and watch at the pattern that its giving you...

What car, and what year?

The CEL will tell you which O2 sensor, if you're OBDII (97+).

yup if its a OBDII then its either the primary or secondary just pull the code
