Default CEL Code 12 help

i drive a jdm h22 hatch and as i was coming home i punch the gas. once i hit 5k the car started to pop. So i went home and checked my cel and it blinked once for a while then one quick on so that is cel 12 EGR - exhaust gas recirculation lift valve. does this have to do with vtec at all? and what do i do to fix this

Also make sure your EGR is clean and not sticking. When in doubt, pull it off, spray it with some carb cleaner then reinstall. If that doesnt fix your problem you EGR is dead or vac is incorrect.

your egr connects right on top left of the intake manifold. there should be a valve and sensor to check valve opening or lift. like 98typesh said take it off spray with carb cleaner and check for good vacuum and should be no problem. also how many miles are on the motor. The exhaust gas recirculation valve will get clogged after so many miles and will require you to clean it.

umm its a jdm motor and i just had it in for 2 months so yeah its around 30 to 40k and i did clean out the egr valve but that didn't do anything. could a bad jdm h22 distributor be the problem because the need is jumping um and down but its not reving at all. if i change out the distributor what could i use since i cant get a hold of a jdm h22 distributor.

Well just because the egr wasn't clogged doesn't mean that the port in the intake manifold where it meats the cylinder head isn't clogged... I have heard of people having to remove the intake manifold to unclog the port just to get rid of an egr cel... but that would have to be some serious clogging...

It really shouldn't be that much work to remove an intake manifold on a h22 swapped civic. Its a different story on a lude with EVERYTHING in the engine bay. Check the little vac diaphragm for the EGR sensor. If that thing is sticking or not working thats the problem. You claimed you have taken the EGR off to clean it, then you should know where the vac line is and where it plugs into.

Quick question, is it even wired up correctly?

What you using for your valve solenoid (for EGR)?
