car overheating?
OK now the lude seems to want to overheat at an idle. It only does it when its just sitting there and wont while driving. Do you think its the thermostat or the sensor. I would think if it was the thermostat it would do it all the time... right. Or not?
Sounds like your sensor is acting up, and possibly turning on your fan a little late. Mine does that, but I have a much later model Prelude.
Is it heating up into the red on your gauge, or is it getting to like 3/4 and then backing down? Maybe it just turns on after it is a bit warm.

well could be a few things.
First thing, have you checked your fluid level?? If low fill it up.
When the car is running is the radiator getting hot?
If it isn't replace your thermostat.
It could also be a bad water pump.
Also when is the last time you flushed the system? You should at least once ever 2 years. I would recommend once a year. Not hard to do plus doesn't take too long really.

It heats up all the way to the red and then if I give it some gas for a little it will go right back down. Like I said it doesnt do it when driving just at a long idle. I just flushed the system about 3 months ago and the fluid level is good. So, think its the thermostat?

not to steal this thread but my 93 lude has an overheating problem too. my fans work but they dont come on automatically, i checked the relay and that was not it. do you think it would be the thermo in this case?
do you really think its the thermo. I am starting to think its the water pump because all I have to do to cool it down is rev the engine to like 2000 rpm for a minute and the temp will go down. But I dont wantto just go change the waterpump if its not bad.
Well shame on you for not keeping your radiator filled. I check everything (oil, brake, water levels) every week, or every other week when I'm lazy.
Glad to hear you got everything worked out though.

I would change the thermostat first because it's cheap and hella lot easier than water pump. If that doesnt' work or fix it.... Makes it time to change your timing belt
BTW reving it might be enough to put pressure on the thermostat causing it to open.
