A/C Removal Q's
Just got down here in Florida, and I found a wonderful thing out.
N/A Built H23 + 90 Degree Weather + A/C = Won't Work
This just puts the nail in the coffin for removing my A/C, as I'd like the room for my turbo setup soon, and getting rid of the condensor/compressor will throw a couple ft/lbs back into my curve.
So who's done this? Anything I should know about? The movers should get here with my tools Wednesday morning, and I'm aiming to have this thing nailed before Friday.
Here is what I got so far:
-Purge from the nipple-looking relief valve from a safe distance.
-Follow the lines around the bay and unplug them. Removal of the battery will be needed to get some of it.
-Loosen the A/C belt and unbolt the 4 studs holding the pulley assembly in place.
Any other comments? I plan on taking the front bumper off to get better access to the condensor and it's plumbing. I also hear that there is stuff tucked under the dash that I can remove. I'm sure this is pretty bonehead, but I would like to not go into this completely blind and m crappy crappy chilton's manual refuses to comment on the A/C system at all, believing I'll spray R12 on a dog or a baby. Thanks in advance.

I posted this in a thread asking about compressor replacement but it details the compressor removal. I just removed the compressor and lines running to it the other day, Took about an hour. I also plan to remove the entire system in the near future.

if the system is evacuated of refrigerant all you have to do is un bolt the lines.
they are both 12mm.
Too swap the compressor you have too...
1. have the refrigerant evacuated from the system ( or be an ozone killing *******
)2. disconnect the battery.
3. loosen the powersteering pump and remove the belt
4. loosen the alt. via the locknut/adjustment bolts. Its also easier if you remove the through bolt. I just removed all the bolts and set the alt out of the way. its neccesary to get the compressor out anyway.
5. disconect the elec. connector on the compressor
6. unbolt the refrigerant lines on the compressor.
7. now remove the 4 compressor mounting bolts, two are accesible from the top and the other two are accesible from underneath the car. Once you have them out just pull the compressor out of the engine compartment.
8. put in the new compressor and reverse the steps. Then go have it charged at a shop.

2 of the lines go into the firewall right under your ABS module (if you have one), so I'd probably just cut those, or take them out from behind the dash...
