Anybody have that powerband/dyno comparison? Or a Euro-R or Type-R vs type-s?
Since they're all the same head/cams/pistons, the difference is all in the manifolds and ecu, correct?

Awsome I finally found a thread pertaining to what I am researching that isnt 3 yrs old.
Im trying to do a H22 Type-S into a 00 Civic EX.
I am having alot of confusion with OBD and ECU.
What is the actual JDM Type-S ECU? A OBD2 P5P?
P5Pis the number for a Type SH so are the Type S and SH the same ECU, or is there a different ECU for a Type S JDM H22A?
Is there a harness so that I could do OBD2 => OBD2b (I couldnt find one) so I can use the stock Type S ECU in the civic or will I have to just go down to OBD1 and do a chipped P28 and try and find an "actual" Type S base map?

Why not get the SiR S-Spec or Euro R? ATTS is a pain and once you want to get a LSD which will outdo ATTS any day you'll be F'd. Euro R is the best of the red top H swaps mainly because of its trans and intake mani.
Yes, I agree, and I would never mess with ATTS because I dont see it as have a good Cost/Pain-in-the-*** to Performance ratio.
Well here is the deal, and I am a little new to the game so bear with me.
I picked up a store room full of goodies for almost nothing and in it were 2 complete motors, minus distributors, stamped H22A.
One of those motors has a red valve cover with a M2B4 tranny bolted to it.
Other than measuring the profile of the cams what other ways are there to tell the motor type?

Look in the faq's, there's a thread about the SH vs. Base. Look at the pics and figure out which block you have. If the person before you was using an M2B4 with the motor, it's likely a regular H22 with a red valve cover. If it was a Type-S an adapter plate would be required to mount the intermediate shaft.
Where are you around Purdue? I'm co-op'ng this year, but will be back next fall.

So are Type S and SH block identical?
To be honest the blocks have been sitting for a few weeks and I havent really looked at them except to take a speed senor off to put in my 93 Prelude.
Mostly just been researching online so I can do a H22 Civic, the right way this time.
Ill look the blocks over, and snap some pics if I absolutely cant figure it out.
One thing I do remember off the top of my head is that one of them had a sensor on the (proper name for the tube on the block that the top radiator hose connects to) and one did not.
O and I live off campus, out on SR 25

O well Ill just get the head milled and bam Type-S compression lol jk
Damn, guess since I dont have a Type-S I guess I dont deserve to be in this thread anymore.
Thanks for the help guys.
Im going to put the block on a stand and stow it in the garage for the winter.
(Looking for a D16 if anyone local knows/has one, y7/cheapy8)
Does anyone know a good way to clean the outside of all that grime and grease? I have a bunch of bottles of engine cleaner from auto zone, but that yielded rather unsatisfactory results. Someone told me you could heat it up with a propane torch and that bakes the oil and grease out of the metal......

3M brake clean, it works really well on cleaning off a motor, use it all the time to clean engines off after oil leaks have been fixed. Not so harsh either to do anything to paint or rubber seals/o-rings. If you don't wanna invest in a few cans of that then pressure wash it.
just had a busy Christmas working on my 1998 BB6 type S,took out my fxxxxxd clutch and replaced my JDM type S motor (with atts) with a JDM Euro R engine and a early very rare 1997 SIR S SPEC LSD gearbox. what a mission!took 8 days, but i must say i like the LSD better ,the Euro r motor has lots of different parts than the type s,but just swapped most of the parts from the S.I used the type S manifold with Euro R throttle body, just put 200 k on it and gave it a little bit of gas and wow, boy does she move.will try later this year with the Euro R gearbox fitted(got a problem on reverse at the minute quite common on these)i will also strip the type S motor and check the differences between this and my spare Euro R motor, the good thing is if i want to return my type S to standard. no problem, there was no body mods.electrical mods to do this conversion just a lot of thinking and checking parts,

Hey guys,
So i am a few years behind. I have a JDM BB4 Prelude.
H22A - motor.
I would like to do the following - but before hand would like to know what sort of differences to expect if any. I want to slap a 70mm Throttle body on and drop in a set of H22a7 Cams ( Type S ) Cams.
What do you guys thing the results are going to be like ? Is it worth while ? Porting and polishing the intake ( And also if it is advised doing the whole chop up of the various intake stages/chambers to make it one massive intake )
Thanks guys
