ATTS Light Reset- Failed
Hey guys,
I tried the instructions from the Helms manual (as well as the sticky we have on CEL, ATTS codes) on resetting the ATTS light so I can perform an ATTS function test.
The problem is I was getting code 78 (ATTS Control Unit) and according to the service manual I was suppose to reset the code before troubleshooting it further.
I tried to reset it a few times and it failed everytime.
Parking brake was up, tires were straight forward, i had a paperclip in the blue connector. Went to ON position, once I saw the ATTS light come on immediately I turned the wheel to the right one full turn, then back as soon as I saw it go off but it just kept coming back and telling me the code.
When I turn on the car, the ATTS light DOES turn off like it normally should, should I be concerned or wait for it to come back on?

Well I didn't want to reset the radio code yet I have to contact Honda customer service and put the car under my name before I can retrieve the code free online
So do you start turning the wheel as soon as you turn to the ON position and see all the lights on the dash come on (including ATTS)? Or do you wait until the next time the ATTS light shows?

Should be the next time, iirc. The light will come on with all the dash lights, then turn off, then turn on again. Then you turn the wheel, it goes off, then you straighten, it goes on, etc.
I see. Weird though, when I turn the wheel its like the light ignores that im turning it and just keeps going through the normal blinking cycles. It is very difficult to turn the wheel being only in "ON" mode lol
You have to turn the wheel quickly. Turn it 45º and then back to center before it blinks the second time. Then repeat. The first two times I did it, I didn't turn the wheel fast enough.
Maybe I am turning too far then, because the car is off its like turning the wheel without power steering and to be safe I was trying 1.5 rotations before going back.

I hope you're following the directions properly.
Step 1: Connect the jumper.
Step 2: Pull the ebrake up far, not just 1 or 2 clicks. Pull it up the same amount as if you were parking on a hill in neutral.
Step 3: Make sure your wheels are pointed straight ahead.
Step 4: Turn the ignition to ON (do NOT start the car).
Step 5: Wait for the ATTS light to blink once. As soon as it does, turn the steering wheel 45º to the right. For the geometrically challanged, 45º is half of 90º. That means if you typically hold your hands at 10 and 2, they should be at 11:30 and 3:30 after a 45º right turn.
Step 6: When the ATTS light goes off, QUICKLY return the steering wheel to straight ahead position.
Step 7: Wait for the ATTS light to again. As soon as it does, turn the steering wheel 45º to the right. For the geometrically challanged, 45º is half of 90º. That means if you typically hold your hands at 10 and 2, they should be at 11:30 and 3:30 after a 45º right turn.
Step 8: When the ATTS light goes off, QUICKLY return the steering wheel to straight ahead position.
The light should pause for about 2 seconds. Then you should get 2 short blinks and nothing else.
Try it again EXACTLY as I have described. If you still can't get it, drive the car to me and I'll reset it for you. I will only charge a small fee of $50.

I had to watch that video probably six times just to see your timing. Try again in the daylight with the camera having the correct orientation. I'll be able to tell you what you're doing wrong, if anything.

LOL @ dans video (never pulled the brake up that far before hahahaha)
Anyway. I think the confusion for me was turning the "WHEELS" 45 degrees rather than turning the "Steering wheel" 45 degrees. I'll try this again and let you guys know if that works then explain.

Ok just did it, its a lot easier when you realize you only need to turn the steering 45 degrees and not the wheels themselves LOL
1) Plug in connector, make sure its in the bottom two holes which are smaller (the blue connector should have 4 little square holes where it looks like you can connect the paperclip or whatever youre using to, its the two smaller ones)
2) Handbrake up
3) The FIRST time you see the ATTS light come on which is almost immediately after you turn to the ON position turn the wheel slightly to the right, not even half way down.
4) Hold it there and once the light goes off turn the wheel back up so the wheels would be pointing straight.
5) It's gonna come on very shortly after that where you turn the steering wheel to the right to about 2 o clock again and wait for the light to go off.
6) Now turn back to 12 o clock and the light should go off and stay off after that.
You'll know its working because the light takes a little longer to turn off after you go to the 2 o' clock position the first time.
Good luck ill try and make a video when im not so busy!
