'97-'01 Fog Light Install
Okay guys, this could possibly be the easiest mod you can do on your '97-'01 Preludes. The car is already wired for the fogs. All you would need is:
Fog Lights
Honda Fog Light Harness
Honda Switch
Honda Switch Harness
Honda Switch Case
Honda Switch Cover
Honda 4-Pin Relay
Honda 5-Pin Relay
...and about and hour of your time.
The total of the Honda equipment comes out to around 100 bucks, which isn't bad for a clean OEM look.
Start off by disconnecting the battery. Make sure you have the code to your radio if you have a factory Honda stereo. Pull out the turn signals (there is a Phillips screw that you can access through the mouth. Once those are out the plastic fog covers lift out. (This is for OEM and JDM fog light installs)
Next, (if you have after market fogs start here after you have them mounted)
Take the Honda Fog Light harness and plug the one pin connecter (at the end of the orange wire) into the female connector behind the driver's side turn signal. Stretch the harness across the frame under the radiator and secure the ground to the support mid-way across the front (there are 2 holes...don't think it matters which one you use). Your kit should come with some wire ties that snap into the lower frame (which has 2 holes on the drivers side along the lower frame, and 1 hole to the passenger side of the middle support). After that all you need to do is plug in your lights.
Now it's time to go inside the car. Remove the fuse cover, then the kick panel and lift up the side molding up to the bottom of the dash. Then you can pull out the panel around the fuse box. You might want to pull out the foot rest as well, it will help when you get down under the dash.
Pull out the Switch case in the dash on the left side of the steering wheel (be careful...use a screw-driver cover in a towel, and gently pry it out). Unplug the 3 switches and pull them out, you won't need the old switch case. Install the 3 switches and the Fog Light switch into the new case.
Now...unplug the 12 pin connector from the fuse box (it's the big grey on on the left side of the fuse panel). Plug the Female 12 pin of the Switch Harness into the car's Male 12 pin. Next plug the Male 12 pin of the Switch Harness into the car's fuse box. There are two 1 pin connectors, 0ne that looks like the connector on the Fog Light Harness, and one with a Male square connector. Take the square connector of the Switch Harness and plug it into the left socket under the 12 pin connector of the fuse box. The other 1 pin is located to the left of fuse box and then above. It is an orange wire blue taped to a cluster of wires (you will recognize it from the Female connector of the Fog Light Harness).
Next comes the tricky part. It took me a while to figure it out. Look through the hole in the dash where the Switch Case was, and you will see a little to the right a bolt about the same level as the hole. There is where you will put the 4 and 5 pin Relays. You cannot put them in opposite directions as you will not be able to connect both of them. What I had to do was connect the 5 pin facing to the left and 4 pin facing to the right. Do not tighten the bolt so tight that you cannot move the Relays. You will have to bend the 4 pin towards you and point it down. Then you will be able to tighten and connect the plugs to the Relays.
Next plug in your switches and put in the Switch case. Tie up your wires so they do not interfere with cover around the fuse box. Reinstall the cover, the fuse box cover, the foot rest, and the kick panel. And you are finished. Before you close everything up, you might want to test the lights to make sure they work, so you don't have to pull everything apart again.
