Default '86 prelude help

hey guys, I need some help.
I have an ''86 prelude (vintage, woo) and it''s been having some problems.
symptoms:
-white smoke coming from under the hood daily
-occasionally has a stutter in first and second gear where it lurches forward and then won''t accelerate
-idles at 2k rpm, sometimes higher
-it also has a bouncing idle between 1k and 2k rpm
-today in neutral the rpm went straight to zero and the car died, just made a clicking noise when I tried to start it back up. I gave it a minute or two to think before I tried starting it up again, which it did no problem.

I know it''s really old and everyone will just say to trash it, but I need it for at least another 4 months, so any help, advice, or suggestions you fellas could give would be appreciated.

Ah...I thought all the 2nd gens were carbereted. Got a pic of the engine?

You might also want to ask on preludepower.com, they have a good 2nd and 3rd gen forum

it's a '91 engine and it is fuel injected; I'll post a picture soon, but it's pretty grimy so it might not reveal much.

Definitely hang on to that car I would really start with a full tune-up on that thing before you do other trouble shooting. Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, oil change, PCV valve, clean throttle body if you can, etc etc etc

wow, thats a piece of our heritage there. I wonder who owns the oldest lude on h-t.

What a fuked up intake system on it too.

As far as white smoke goes do you go through coolant alexa? White smoke usually indicates burning coolant. You mentioned it was comming from under the hood though. You able to find out where approximately?

Bouncing idle can be many things from a vacuum/air intake leak to IACV amongst other parts. Not exactly sure what your motor has though to be honest.

I would guess you got more than one issue. I would think atleast two different issues that would origionate from the intake portion of your motor

I dunno if this is recommended but to find air leaks in the intake (by the gaskets etc) you spray a touch of wd-40. If the idle fluctuates you know you've found roughly where as when the wd-40 hits the space where the leak is, it will momentarily seal the leak and cause your idle to drop (less air, less fuel, lower idle)
