Default 3G electrical issues - please help!

ok so i have an 88Si 4WS (formerly owned by another honda-tech member NOFX who i believe had a thread going on here about her progress restoring it) that has a bit of an electrical issue... she has a tenancy to eat alternators and batteries, she ends up killing the voltage regulator and the diode inside the alt and the battery cells go dead as well. her former owner thought it might be a grounding issue, but where it might be coming from is anyone's guess at this point. at the moment she's still running strong, other than the fact that the battery light flashes occasionally, and when the headlights are on they pulse from bright to dim, as do the dash lights. interestingly enough, however, i discovered the other night that when i push in the clutch it makes it stop, and the headlights/dash lights steady out, but as soon as i release the clutch it starts back up again. could this have something to do with my problem? (it stands to reason, but then again i don't know nearly as much as i'd like about operations under the hood of my car so i could be wrong) anyways, thanks in advance for any help or advice, i really want to get this figured out before she kills another alt...she came with a hella expensive last-one-in-the-country-dammit-i-forget-what-it-was-called alternator that i'm waiting to put in til this gets worked out and i'd rather not have to go buy another one in the meantime..... cheers!
