What is the diffrence between the different cbr 600
Ok I am purchasing my first bike in a few weeks but want to know the difference between them. I am looking for a 94-99 cbr600. I noticed that there are different types. So what is the difference between the 600f1, 600f2, and 600f3. Also compared to a yamaha yzf600r how do the bikes compare.
well they are different generations. not sure of each change per generation. most likely, slightly different engine, suspension, looks, etc
Holy crap that's a lot of questions.
F1 (87-90 I think) - first generation. not a lot of spares available for this bike, so best to stay away from it. unless it's free. then you should give it to me.
F2 (91-94) - second generation. much improved over the first gen, especially the 94 model, which is updated versus the earlier F2.
F3 (95-98) - third gen. shares many similar components with the F2 (especially the 94), and there are TONS of available parts. not just honda oem stuff, but aftermarket.
F4 (99-00 I think) - fourth gen. vastly improved over the F3, which was really only an updated F2.
F4i (01-??) - updated with fuel injection (hence the "i"). still extremely fast and capable in the right hands, but the gsxr600 and r6 are more popular.
Think of the Yamaha YZF600R as a really great CBR copy, but inexpensive (NOT cheap, just doesn't cost as much).
Oy. My fingers are tired now.

Hahaha, yeah, it's a porker. CBRs tend to hold their resale value better. But, that means you can pick up the YZF600R for pocket change.

When did the switch from steel to aluminum frame happen?

The front ones did not appear to be when I tried putting on an F2 front wheel onto my F3. It wasn't the brakes, but the spacer for the axle. But maybe I was missing a part. HTH.
Your yzf600 will never handle as well as the cbr's. A friend of mine raced a yzf600 and he had everything done that you could in the 600 production class....he got burned daily by f3s.
